The Top 10 Books With a Fall or Autumn Setting

For Fall, in Fall

10 Books for Autumn and Fall

Not only are these all good reads for the chilled, autumn air, but they are also set in Autumn. This list, 10 Books for Autumn, ranges from young adult fiction, to horror, to Americana, to Mystery, and more. Autumn brings us Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Harvest - and these Classic books.

All Hallow's Eve - Charles Williams

Charles Williams, a U.K. writer, and contemporary of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkiens (one of the Inklings) wrote this novel about suffering. An innocent girl walks around an eerily deserted London only to come to the realization that she had recently died in a plane crash. This ghost eventually enters into an epic battle between Good and Evil. Interestingly enough, Lester, a 'ghost' is on the side of Good where the fight pits the living against the dead in this supernatural thriller.

Little men: life at Plumfield with Jo's boys - Louisa May Alcott

The second in the Little Women Trilogy, Alcott's sequel brings characters back from the highly acclaimed Little Women. This novel runs from April to Thanksgiving at the school of Jo Bhaer. This novel follows one young Nat Blake, a gifted student whose passion for the violin, and his ability at coloring thr truth get him into trouble in this coming of age novel.

Pocahontas - Joseph Bruchac

Definitely not the Disney tale of love between a Native American girl and a pioneer, Pocahontas is about the relationship between colonists in Virginia, and the Powhatan tribe. This book is great because it shares the same story twice. Once, you get the perspective of an eleven year old Native American girl, and you also get a completely different perspective of Captain John Smith, one of the colonists. I would call this more Historical Fiction that Juvenile fiction, but it is a great story of the first Thanksgiving, without Disney depicting a grown man falling in love with an eleven year old girl!
Fall can't end without Halloween, and this list of 10 Books for Autumn can't truly

Something Wicked this way comes, The Halloween Tree, and A Graveyard for Lunatics - Ray Bradbury

Three Bradbury novels make this list, and for good reason. This master of horror with disciples such as William Gibson and Stephen King can truly craft 3 of 10 of the best books for this chilling season. Something Wicked is about a wish granting Ringmaster Mr. Dark, The Halloween Tree is fiction that has the great ability to show us Halloween in many different cultures and many parts of the world, and Graveyard for Lunatics is a story in which the past comes back to haunt a Hollywood Set - literally.

Pet Sematary - Stephen King

How sweet... A cemetary where children go to bury their beloved pets... But this graveyard hosts a deeper darker secret than that. The lure of never having to lure a loved one translates into a shocking tale of horror, one of King's scariest.

Dark Harvest - Norman Partridge

I don't know why, but this book reminds me of Stephen King's Long Walk. A small town with a group of adults who will never leave, allows one of the town's children to leave the confines of this small town if they can take down the October Boy. A Chilling coming-of-age story.

A Night in the Lonesome October - Roger Zelazny

The author of one of the grand daddys of the fantasy genre takes a spin into the realm of farce comedy with this Good Vs. Evil comedy where witches, doctors, detectives, vampires, and mathematically inclined dogs are out to either save the world, or allow it to be ruled by the Elder Gods, Lovecraftian style!

Tricks - Ed McBain

Police Procedure and routine are the keys to fighting crime, even the most unlikely of crimes like a person all over town (literally), kids robbing liquor stores, and more. "The city in these pages is imaginary..." Truly is accurate in this, his most bizzare of 87th Precinct novels.
