1. Does your company have a safe driver discount and if so, does it apply to new customers as well as seasoned customers?
Some insurance agencies offer immediate safe driver discounts whereas other insurance companies make you wait a few years before giving the credit.
2. Can you explain insurance to me in terms I can understand?
If the company you are calling does not have the patience nor the simple language needed to help you understand your policy, you may want to consider looking at another company.
3. Why does my age sometimes affect my premium?
The main age group that asks this question is the 55 and over group. The answer to this is simple. Statistics play the main part in risk assessment, and statistics show teen drivers and older adults run the most risk of being in an accident. Therefore, premiums may be higher. However, this isn't always the case.
4. How do I report a claim?
Look for an agency with a 24-7 claims department. This is a very helpful benefit in times of great need.
5. Is there a local agent in my area?
Try to choose an agency that has a local representative in case you need one. That way, there is more accountability on the agency's part.
6. What payment options does your company offer?
Choose a company that has multiple ways to pay your premium for free. Convenience is the key.
7. Can we manage our account online or do we have to make a phone call?
Again, convenience is a large stress reducer. The more you can manage on your own, the better.
8. What type of reputation does the insurance company hold?
Do your homework on the potential agency. Choose a company that has been around for a while, and if possible is worthy of J.D. Powers awards.
9. Does your company insure other types of property?
Try to choose a company where you can consolidate all your insurance needs. Discounts may abound if you do.
10. Does your company have a discount if I purchase more insurance from this agency?
A company that offers a multiple account credit is worth giving a second look. Some companies offer up to 20% off when more than one policy is bought.
The best answer is this: do your homework and shop around, and you will be happy with your car insurance.
