Precious. No other movie has gotten the media attention or the Buzz as much as this Oprah and Tyler Perry Co-produced film. For starters, the film already won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in January as well as the People's Choice at the Toronto Film Festival. Mo'Nique is getting a lot of great criticism for her dark role as an abusive mother, including a win at Sundance for the Special Jury Price for best Supporting Actress. Gabourey 'Gabby" Sidibe, an otherwise unknown 26 year old actress, is getting praise for her staring role as an overweight, illiterate teenager pregnant with her second child. The film is so good, even Mariah Carey got decent reviews for her role as a school counselor.Lovely Bones. Peter Jackson's return to film since The Lord of The Ring trilogy, this movie has a built in audience being adapted from a bestselling book by Alice Sebold. It has a line up of academy winning and nominated actors including Rachel Weisz, Mark Walberg, Stanley Tucci, and Susan Sarandon. The lead role is played by 15 year old Irish actress Saoirse Ronan in a dark role as a 14 year old girl who is raped and killed by her neighbor.

Inglorious Bastards. The film got above average reviews, but the real Oscar Buzz from this film comes from best supporting actor, Christoph Waltz, who was a standout in the film as "The Jew Hunter". The actor has already won the best actor award in Cannes and legions of critics favoring his performance.

Avatar. James Cameron's first feature film since Titanic, this 3D film is guaranteed to take home various technical awards and stands a chance at the best director and best picture. The Daily Mail is calling the film the "Most ambitious 3D film ever released". With a 237 million dollar budget and 15 years in the making, this film is sure to grab the attention of the academy.

Up in the Air. The Jason Reitman (of "Juno" fame) directed film staring George Clooney is not only getting rave reviews but the premise and even the approach of the film sound creative and fresh. George Clooney plays a corporate downsizer who is perpetually in travel mode and is obsessed with his frequent flier miles. The film is being labeled a comedy/drama and seems to be somewhat of an "Office Space" on wheels, but a bit more dark. The part about the film that drew me in was reading that the roles casted of actors whom are laved off were actually real people that responded to ads placed in St. Louis and Detroit claiming to be a documentary film on the recession. The people were told to react to the camera how they wish they could have in their real jobs.

Nine. The musical bonanza is filed with stars and directed by Rob Marshall, the same man who made the Oscar winning movie Chicago, also a movie based on a musical. Daniel Day-Lewis is the lead male role with a roll call of A-list stars including Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, and even Fergie!

Julie & Julia. Meryl Streep is in it, and lets face it the academy loves her and rarely is there a year which she escapes some kind of nomination.

Bright Star. Australian Actress Abby Cornish, better known as girlfriend of Ryan Philippe, is getting a lot of buzz for her staring role in this film about poet John Keats.

Whatever Works. Woody Allen and Larry David, enough said. The Academy loves Woody and who doesn't love Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm? This comedy was written by Allen in the 1970's and shot in NYC.

Up. The children's film was a huge hit with critics and fans, and it would be the first animated film since 1991's Beauty and the Beast. With 10 films being nominated this year the film stands a real chance at a nomination.
