The Top 10 Things You Can Do for Extra Cash

Audrey Brown
Whether you're saving up for a big purchase, just looking for some quick spending cash, or wanting to unload extra junk, there are a handful of things that you can do to make some extra money. You'll need to evaluate carefully though whether these options are really worth it. Some of them can provide quick cash, but may not actually be a good value long-term. So don't run out and do all of these without really sitting down and coming up with a plan. Okay, that's it. Lecture over. If you're cash flow is low or your trying to save for a big purchase, here are the top 10 things you can do about it.

1.) Donate plasma. It's good for your wallet; it's good for those who need your plasma. It's a win-win situation. I once knew a guy in college who saved up by donating every two weeks for all four years. If you can do this, it will add up over time.

2.) Sell DVDs, books and CDs (If you still have any left.) Try Half Price Books, they buy on the spot. Try other retailers, local and chain, who buy used DVDs. Game Stop, rental stores, and more.

3.) Visit a pawn shop. This one makes people cringe, but if you have something you don't need any more that has any value at all...take it in. These are excellent resources in emergencies.

4.) Have a garage sale. You may make less of a profit than you would out of consignment, but it's also fast money. Instant, in fact.

5.) Start up an Ebay account. Yes, people still have these. Sell...whatever you want.

6.) Consider Consignment. Research local consignment stores in your area and turn in whatever they'll take. You'll get a cut of the profit, which is more than you'd get if you left those clothes you never wear sitting in your closet until they were out of style.

7.) Start a side-business. Go old school and offer to mow lawns, create flyers for an organizing business, whatever it is just make sure you know what you're doing. Offer a service that you can legitimately perform well for a price that will beat any local competitors. To quote the eternal wisdom of the song, "Car Wash." "You may not ever get rich, but let me tell you it's better than digging a ditch." Don't forget to use the internet as a resource here. Small businesses such as The Pirate Doll Boutique, operate solely on Myspace.com and operate via Paypal.com

8.) Create a quick, no nonsense budget or spending rules. And I mean really no-nonsense. Get stingy. Think dollar store. Think generic. Use coupons. Drink tap water. Whatever your financial goal, get serious by being honest about what you can and can't afford in order to reach that goal. To stay encouraged, figure out how quickly you'll be able to reach your financial goal based on the lowest budget you can live off of.

9.) Turn things off. Cut the cable. Ditch the internet. Forget the air conditioning. They're extras, and if you're really hard up...they can go.

10.)Sell your hair. Whaaaa? Yes, you can sell your hair at http://www.thehairtrader.com If it's good enough for Joe in, "Little Women", it's good enough for you!
