The Top 10 "Top 10" Lists on the Internet

Or at Least Some Really Funny Ones

Abe
The Internet is filled with top ten lists written by various individuals and publications. These top ten lists rank somewhat normal things like what ten films made the most money this year to the top ten on the Billboard charts. But there are other top ten lists devoted to really weird stuff. I thought, perhaps erroneously, that compiling a Top Ten of Top Ten Lists locatable on the Internet. Here's some I personally found bizarre, interesting and/or cool. They are listed in no particular order.

Top Ten Time Wasting Sites on the Web (http://freebies.about.com/od/710/tp/timewasting.htm)

Personally, I don't find I need help locating time wasting sites. If you do need some help while trying to put off work, check out this one on About.com. Here we have a listing of links to various puzzle sites, robot-makes and other time-killers. I can't vouch for the content, but I think it's cool a guy wasted time coming up with this time wasting list.

Top 10 Ways To Destroy Earth (http://www.livescience.com/technology/destroy_earth_mp-1.html)

Hey, if ruining the planet is your thing, you may want to visit this site where someone with, apparently, a degree in physics gives you some methods for destroying the whole darn globe. Things include vacuum energy detonation and getting eaten by Von Neuman machines- whatever the heck those are.

Top Ten Mutants (http://www.sciencebase.com/science-blog/top-ten-snps.html)

I clicked on this one thinking it'd give me a pecking order for X-Men, but really, it gives a listing of actual, real genetic mutations, both good and bad, and what they can do to you. The ones they list aren't too exciting, in fact, being reminded how much of my health isn't in my control kind of freaked me out. But if you're into that kind of thing, enjoy.

Windows Vista: Top Ten Things You Can Do (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/discover/top-10-things-to-do.aspx)

I picked this one because, after hearing all the Vista horror stories on Mac ads, I found it an amusingly ironic title. It could have been re-written "Yeah, but here's ten things you actually CAN do." Apparently, these things we should be super-happy about including "See everything you have open at a glance," and "Keep the things you need most at your fingertips."

Top Ten Reasons itunes Sucks (http://www.webmonkey.com/blog/The_Top_Ten_Reasons_iTunes_Sucks)

Speaking of Bill Gates brainchildren, here's a site I chose because it has the word "sucks" in it, and usually, when people write a top ten list to complain, it's amusing. This list gives a bunch of technological facts that, I guess, prove the site's thesis statement and will be of interest to annoyed tech geeks: "No support for other music formats Ogg/FLAC/etc. - This a dead horse, it's never going to happen. But we still like to beat it. A LAME encoder would be nice as well."

Top Ten Grossest Candies (http://candyaddict.com/blog/top-10-grossest-candies/)

Who doesn't love candy? Who doesn't love reading about gross food and thinking "Man, that's nasty!". White chocolate maggots? Nasty. Poop Candy? Nasty. There's ten gross-out brands listed here - with photos.

Top Ten Houseplants (http://www.gardenrant.com/my_weblog/2008/11/top-ten-housepl.html)

Could there be a more boring top ten list title. The name of the list belies it's detailed and instructive listing - will photos - which will be of use to gardeners, I'm sure. If you look into plants the way you look into pets before you bring them into your home, you may enjoy this site.

Top Ten Uses for Coffee Grounds (http://www.curbly.com/DIY-Maven/posts/1881-Top-1-Uses-For-Used-Coffee-Grounds)

I know what you're thinking: number 1 has to be "make coffee." But this site has a variety of - well, ten - uses for this world beverage staple. Among those uses: keeping cats away (who knew) and keeping fleas off of dogs. Most will still prefer just making coffee, I'd guess. Personally, I never touch the stuff.

Top Ten Don Cherry Suits ( http://goingfivehole.blogspot.com/2008/02/my-top-ten-don-cherry-suits.html)

I had no idea who this dude was (he's in hockey) but when I saw his suits, I saw why a blog entry on his look was necessary. Holy cow are they bad. You need shades to view some of them. The last one may be the best.

Top Ten Least Stolen Vehicles of 2008 (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/top-ten-least-stolen-vehicles-2008/1213028/)

There's always a list of cars that thieves most prefer; but who'd have thought there was also a list of cars nobody wants? Here's a list, or photo array, of autos that get left alone, apparently. Some of them are ginormous SUV's. Guess the gas prices stop even robbers.
