With so Many Fuel-efficient Models Out There, These Cars Are Turning Their Backs on the Environment

Annie Trinh
It's hard to believe that in today's environmentally conscience society, there's still a market for cars that get below 17 mpg. But, people still love their large SUVS and sporty two-seaters that have some of the worst gas mileage around. The following is a list of the top ten fuel-inefficient cars in 2010.

1. Lamborghini Murcielago 8 mpg
According to Wikipedia, the MurciƩlago was named after a bull who just wouldn't die. The Lamborghini Murcielago embodies that same fighting spirit. Despite it's poor gas mileage (an 8-cyclinder V12 gas guzzling engine), people who purchase this car aren't concerned with fuel emissions or hybrid models--they want a cool performance sports car--period. With a price tag of $450,000 (www.lamborghini.com)--if they can afford it, who can really blame them?

2. Bentley Azure-T 9 mpg
The Bentley Azure-T is a sleek, sophisticated luxury sports car that would make any environmentalist's heart melt. From www.rsports.com, the Bentley Azure-T has a twin turbocharged V8 engine with 500 bhp's of horsepower. This is the ultimate in luxury cars that can send you to 170 mph in 5.2 seconds. If you're looking to save some money at the gas station, this pony is definitely NOT your ride.

3. Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 10 mpg
According to USNews, this dreamcar is ranked #2 in Exotic Sports Cars. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a large two-door coupe that seats up to four. It's sleek design embodies sophistication that makes it a concept car that many merely dream of owning. For further details and reviews, check out what MotorTrend has to say.

4. Ford F-250 Lariat 10 mpg
Moving from foreign sporty gas-guzzlers to monster truck gas-guzzlers, we have the Ford F-250 Lariat. It's huge body, huge wheels, and huge engine make this one of the most fuel inefficient cars in 2010. U.S. Consumer Reports names the Ford F-250 Lariat also as having the worst value for a vehicle.

5. Hummer H2 11mpg
We've all seen these eyesores of the highway rumbling down the street with a little housewife propped up on a phone book behind the wheel heading towards the nearest private school to pick up the kiddos. It's one of the worst polluting cars on the market. According to Wikipedia, these car values are dwindling which will hopefully make their demand go down.

6. Nissan Armada 12 mpg
Just the name of the car says it all-ARMADA. You're driving a group of ships! That just exudes bad gas mileage, doesn't it? For a full details on this gorilla of a vehicle, check out Edmunds.

7. Cadillac Escalade 13 mpg
According to USNews, the Cadillac Escalade has consistently ranked as one of the top luxury SUVs on the market. But that's not because of its gas saving capabilities. This large passenger vehicle can haul up to 6 people and large items, but it only gets an average of 13 mpg. To make up for this Cadillac decided to come out with a hybrid version of the Escalade which only gets about 21 mpg.

8. Lincoln Navigator 14 mpg
According to Wikipedia, the Navigator was Lincoln's first ever SUV on the market. The Lincoln Navigator gets compared to the Cadillac Escalade a lot and they're both favorites of many sports athletes, music producers and celebrities. But that's besides the point. The point is that it only gets 14 mpg and that's a high pollutant for our environment.

9. Chevrolet Avalanche LT 15 mpg
According to US News, the Chevrolet Avalanche is ranked #1 in the Sport Utility Truck category. Is it an SUV? Is it a truck? The Chevrolet Avalanche is for those who want both. But, the fact remains that its one of the worst vehicles when looking at fuel-efficiency with only 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway.

10. Jeep Commander 15 mpg
If you're an outdoor-sy person who likes to do a lot of off-roading, the Jeep Commander has probably been on your radar. But many reviews on US News have touted it as having an uncomfortable interior, poor performance, and low value. Combine that with mileage of only 15 mpg and you have a lose-lose situation for all.
