These Three Brewpubs Offer Magnificent Brews

Major Jester
Indiana has 32 microbreweries, and any style of locally brewed beer is available. The top 3 are also Brewpubs, complimenting beer tasting adventures with fine cuisine. All provide award winning beer for your enjoyment.

The Upland Brewing Company, Bloomington, Indiana

Located at 350 West 11th Street in Bloomington, The Upland Brewing Company is a marvelous place to enjoy good food and great brews. With both indoor and outdoor seating, this Brewpub offers a wide variety of brewed on the spot libations. Recently at a Chicago event, two Upland creations received awards at the World Beer Cup.

Oktoberfest Lager is Uplands leading seasonal seller. It received a Silver Award in Chicago. This lager, named after the famous Oktoberfest held in Munich each fall since 1810, is an authentic Bavarian lager made with all-German malts and, according to the brew masters, rare German hops. The aroma is true to Marzen-style lagers and provides a sweet and malty taste, complete with the crisp hoppy flavor shining through. Upland's Oktoberfest Lager has an ABV of 6.5 and its IBU number is 16.5.

Oaken Barrel Brewing Company, Greenwood, Indiana

The Oaken Barrel brewpub can be found at 50 North Airport Parkway, Suite L, in Greenwood. While most local brewpubs have limited menus, the Oaken Barrel has about any kind of fare that you would desire available. In addition to the fine dining, this establishment offers a wide variety of home brewed beers and ales.

One of the featured products at the Oaken Barrel is a delightful fruit beer style of brew called Razz-Wheat. This beer received the Silver Medal at the Great American Beer Festival. Tagged as an Americanized version of the famed Belgian Fruit Beers, it is one of their most popular sellers. With a striking red color from Oregon raspberries, this fruity tasting brew will sure to delight one seeking a sweeter tasting beer. Razz-Wheat boasts an ABV of 5.1 coupled with IBU's of only 12.

Lafayette Brewing Company

The Lafayette Brewing Company is located at 622 Main Street, Lafayette. This brewpub also has a full menu offering soups, salads, appetizers, and many varieties of sandwiches. Of special note are the Bison burgers, touted on the menu as "Indiana-raised, grass-fed, organic American bison char-grilled to order." Daily specials are also available at very reasonable prices.

The Tippecanoe Common Ale is one of the hallmark offerings of this top microbrewery. This unique ale is made with pale and crystal malts, and finished with a generous helping of Amarillo® hops. The resulting amber color is most attractive. The aroma is tempting to the senses, and the taste of the special hops brings a unique character to this ale. This Ale won a Gold Medal at the 2008 Indiana State Fair. It has an ABV of 5.8% and IBU's of 65.

Any of these three top microbreweries are worthy of a visit. All continue the tradition of quality brewing coupled with pleasant dining to compliment your enjoyment of specialty brews. Cheers!

This spring Indiana Governor Daniels signed a law allowing Indiana microbreweries to not only serve on Sunday, but to sell to individuals up to two cases of beer. The 32 Microbreweries have lobbied for over five years to see this bill passed.

Guest Mike, Thanks for the 3 Floyds tip. I'll check it out if I get up Munster way.

Why isn't Three Floyds in Munster on this list? It's a very popular place in the Chicago area. It's not often Chicagoans come down to Indiana for something so it has to be good.

Good info for drinkers. As for the whole Pennsylvania/Pensylvania thing, I'll take "What are both answers for $200, Alex?"

I'm not much into Belgian beers. My favorite "regular" quaff is India Pale Ale. Less frequently I enjoy a good strong beer with dark tones, such as Old Rasputin.
