The Top 4 Thrift Stores and Consignment Shops in the Raleigh, NC, Area
Bargain Shopping in Raleigh, North Carolina
Everyone loves to find a bargain and in these tight times many people are turning to thrift stores and consignment shops to find them. The stigma of shopping at a thrift store is long gone. In fact, my kids and I call Goodwill Stores, GW Boutiques! I often am asked to take my kids friends along on our monthly sojourns out to find bargains. Many times we go out looking and do not really have a need for anything. You just never know what you will find in a thrift store.
- Goodwill Stores - There are 3 that I go to in the Raleigh area. The one on Davis Drive in Cary is the newest. The other 2 that I regularly visit are in Apex on W. Williams and in Brier Creek. Once in a while we will go to the one in Hillsborough and of course anytime we travel we always stop in to see and compare stores.
- Compassion Thrift in Fuquay Varina is located on route 55 and is next door to the Fuquay Flea Market. They have consignment items too. We love the discount wheel that you get to spin after you have spent a certain amount. Last time we went the amount was $15 but I think it might change. We won a couple of small holiday statues! I have bought brand new T-shirts and jeans in this store. The furniture is great too.
- Habitat For Humanity Restores - The main one I go to is the one in Pittsboro because I work close to it on Saturdays. I always walk out with some treasure, whether it's a book, a china bowl, camera accessories, or artwork. They have a commercial store next to it that has appliances, cabinets, screens, tools, etc. There is a huge store in Durham just off of I40 and one in Wake Forest by Lumber Liquidators. I have seen flooring, outside plants and shrubs, and much, much more.
- Plato's Closet - This is a consignment store that my kids absolutely love so I promised to list it here for them. They often sell their name brand gently used or new clothes and shoes to them. They are extremely picky about what they buy since they do not want inventory to sit around for a long time. You can buy clothes, shoes, belts, and pocketbooks in any of their stores. We have been going to the one in Cary but we just noticed they opened one up in Durham by Southpoint Mall.
Of course, there are many other thrift stores in the area. We try to stop in whenever we can to look for treasures. Remember that one man's trash is another man's treasure!
