You've been riding your new scooter around town for a few weeks now. You love the ride and the flexibility it offers. But now that you've settled in, it seems like something is missing. What you need now are some scooter accessories and modifications! One of the great joys of owning a scooter is that you can add scooter accessories or perform modifications to your scooter. It individualizes your scooter and makes it your own. No need to look like everybody else on the road! What are the first modifications to consider for your scooter? A great deal may depend on what you use the scooter for and where you take it. Many scooterists consider the following to be a good list to start out with.

A scooter top case
Whether you are headed to work or the local Home Depot, there's never enough storage on your scooter. A top case can solve many storage issues and still look stylish. Top cases mount on the rear rack of your scooter and come in many shapes and sizes. They can be constructed of plastic, leather, or canvas. There are quite a few aftermarket brands, models, and colors. Ask your scooter forum which works best for your model.

A scooter windscreen
If you commute to work on your scooter, you'll find that a windscreen can save you money and a great deal of grief. First, a windscreen will streamline your scooter so you'll get even better gas mileage! If you've spent time on the road you've probably tasted a bug or two. Worse yet, rocks, rain, or various road debris may have hit you. Windscreens can deflect most of these and save your body and clothing. They come in various shapes and sizes. Large windscreens can be cut down to your custom specifications. You can checkout the many types available online or at your local scooter shop.

Chrome cowl protectors
One sure way to add style to your scooter is to add some chrome. One of the first after market products available for scooters are chrome cowl protectors. Not only will they add some protection to your scooters paint job in crash, they'll make your scooter look incredibly stylish. These can be bought online or at your local scooter shop. You may need help with the installation as most of these parts are made in Italy. The instructions conveniently only come in Italian.

Battery charger
Unfortunately we don't always get to ride our scooter when we want to. Work and other obligations get in the way. If your scooter is going to be sitting around un-ridden for a month or all winter, keep the battery charged. It will extend the battery life and keep your scooter ready to roll. With a Battery Tender Jr. you can permanently hook up the wires to your scooter battery and then just connect the battery leads to the trickle charger whenever it's needed. Even the mostly mechanically challenged can install the battery leads in 20 minutes or less.

Install a cigarette lighter jack
Everyone has their favorite scooter electronics. Sooner or later you'll want to power up your iPod, the navigation system, or the heated gloves in winter. Install a lighter jack in your scooter and you can power them directly from the scooter battery. Consult your local scooter shop or online scooter forum on how to wire the scooter yourself or get them to perform it for you.

Don't wait any longer. Make your scooter exude personality and make a statement. Add some accessories! Most can be installed in an hour or two. If you need some help, check in with your scooter brand's online forum. There are quite a few scooter communities online. Then get out and ride.
