The Top 5 Art Supplies

Bridget Ilene Delaney

If you want to be an artist, it is important that you have the correct supplies. Of course, once you start specializing in a type of art, there are certain supplies that you should have. However, if you are starting and you want art supplies, it is likely that you want to start with drawing and painting. Here are the top five art supplies that you should have.

Pencils

Every artist needs pencils. Even sculptors need pencils. Having pencils is only going to help. This way sketches can be made and erasable marks can be made. Pencils are also great because they can be sharpened or left dull and can create a variety of shades. They also come in gray and colored versions.

Pens

While not all artists will use pens, it is likely that a pen will be used when drawing or planning. Even if you never use a pen for art, it is likely that you will use a pen to write a list of things that is needed for your art. However, pens are also great for tracing the final product and being able to erase the pencil lines that are no longer needed.

Paper

Every artist needs paper. Of course, if you are drawing, you need paper so the drawing can be drawn on it. Paper is also good for having in the work area so it does not get too messy. Then, notes and plans can also be written on paper.

Paintbrushes

It would seem silly to have paintbrushes without paint. You can get paint, but some artists use paint brushes with pencil to create special effects in the drawings. They can also be used to help clean up bits of eraser.

Crayons

Crayons seem like an odd tool to have for art unless they are for children. However, crayons can be used to give different effects to drawings and pictures. They can give variety and texture.
