While I'm sure I've missed plenty, I've compiled a list of what I've determined are the top 5 most annoying Hollywood trends of 2010. Tell me what you think. Did any of these annoy you too?
The Black Geek Glasses
While I've seen these on several different people (Justin Timberlake and David Beckham come to mind) the two most annoying people that I've seen wearing these have to be Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. First of all, if you've ever heard either of these two love birds speak, you would realize that they are not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
In fact, Ashton has built his entire career on being the male version of the dumb blonde. Handsome he is, smart he's not and fake, black, geek glasses only serve to reinforce what is pretty obvious to the most casual observer: You are so dumb. Really, really dumb. For Real. And so are the glasses.
Twittering Intimate Details of Your Life
Okay, so Ashton and Demi lead the pack in this category too. When Ashton's cheating scandal erupted a few months back, these two were not content to maintain a dignified silence. They had to show up at every possible event and put on an over the top display of unity and affection. All of which screams "I've got something to hide."
Anyway. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore have become the official face of over-sharing on Twitter in 2010, right up there with John Mayer. Who, by the way, gave up his Twitter habit. So maybe he's not so dumb after all? Oh, and let's not forget Courtney Love. Yowza.
We've also had to endure the news of break-ups via Twitter. Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey tweeted their break-up, as did Eva Longoria and Tony Parker.
All in all, Twitter represents the worst about pop culture in my view. It's basically just a bunch of mindless twits, blithering about a bunch of nothing. Unfortunately, I don't think Twitter will be leaving us anytime soon. 2011 should be twitter-tastic.
Bunny Ears
When I first saw the bunny ears on top of Madonna's head, I assumed it was just, well, Madonna being Madonna. However, a quick little trip around the net revealed that this was actually a fashion trend from the likes of Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. No kidding.
The fashion runways first started "rocking the bunny ears" in late 2009. Thankfully though, it never completely took off for 2010. Well, except for Madonna. The idea was a throw-back to another Madonna trend in the 80s, when she tied stockings and tights into her tousled hair. That trend took off like wild fire. This one, however, hopped right on back into the hole it came out of. Thank God.
Keeping it Real (Un-retouched photos)
I don't know about you, but I find this celebrity trend to be packed full of irony. I also put it right up there with Hollywood actors who want to do films about the average Joe or Joann in Middle America. They wear it like a badge of ultimate hip or artistic cool. You know, I'm so creative and sensitive that I relate to the simple man. Yet, few of them would be caught dead really living like a simple man.
Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson all posed sans make-up and retouching for magazine photo shoots in 2010. The only problem with it is that they are all late to the party on this one. Jamie Lee Curtis took this bold step back in 2002 when she posed completely natural for MORE Magazine, 8 years ago.
Britney was only 21 then and hadn't married Jason Alexander or Kevin Federline yet. Kimmy was 22 and still married to Damon Thomas, ( Ray-J was waiting in the wings) and Jessica had just married Nick Lachey. But, hey, they're quick studies.
Homosexual and Lesbian Kisses by Heterosexuals
I guess we can thank Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal for this one. You may recall the two very heterosexual hunks filmed a gay cowboy movie a few years ago called Brokeback Mountain. Since then, more and more actors have been keen to prove just how hip and trendy they are by staging lesbian and homosexual kisses at every opportunity - usually at award shows or sporting events.
I find it all tedious and more than just a bit pretentious. If you're gay, fine. But, I'm not understanding why flaunting homosexual and lesbian kisses like a fashion accessory should be trendy. But, maybe that's just me.
But, Heath and Jake couldn't "quit each other" and I have a feeling Hollywood won't be quitting this anytime soon either. Ho Hum.
