First, leadership is about constant evolution and learning. Everything that we do in life is about the process of elimination. The same thing applies to leadership. In this thinking, you are constantly changing your leadership methods. You are forever learning about new, effective ways to tap into your leadership abilities. Think of it like this: not everyone is a natural leader; the rest of us have to learn as we go.
Second, leadership abilities differ from person to person. There are so many different ways that you can be an effective leader. Since every person is different, there are different ways to lead. Each person will have his own beliefs on what a good leader is, and they will use those ideas to tap into their leadership abilities.
Leading is not set in stone. There is no guarantee that what works for one day and one task will work again any other time. This is part of the reason why leadership is about constantly learning and evolving. You have to custom tailor your abilities to each situation.
As a leader, you are part of a team of employees. Your job is not to dictate, point fingers, and sit on your hind end while everyone jumps around doing what you said. Your job as a leader is to provide direction and motivation. Your leadership duties are tied into the work that you should be doing along with the other members of your team.
Prove your leadership abilities by using them in your own life. If you have developed a universal method for effective leadership, you should be proving your abilities to others by using them in your own life. This will help the team establish a level of trust in you. They can see your skills in action, as well as the results that your leadership abilities provide.
It is important to understand that you may think that you know all there is to know about leadership. The truth is quite the contrary, however. Tied in with the constant learning, you will always be able to find more information, techniques and advice about being a great leader. You are only limited by your mind.
