The Top 5 Men's Shoe Trends for Fall 2009

Lindsy Emery
I am always thankful when the fall comes around and those men's sandals and flip-flops are thrown to the back of the closet. I breathe a sigh of relief when the sales ads come out and I can once again peruse the more sensible and more polite pairs of shoes. This year's men shoe trends for fall 2009 are really looking promising.

There are five top shoe trends for the 2009 fall line. Casual, dressy, work boots, dress boots, and Athletics. In the casual wear department, high top and low top canvas shoes are trendy again. K-mart is sporting Joe Boxer canvas shoes for less than $10, in both styles. Stone Creek has always been my first choice of canvas casuals. Their fall line starts out with Ascender, a good-looking hiking shoe, and in the same line, you can find Brody and Midnight. The skecher line includes, Urbantracks Resource and Browser. Academy Sports plus Outdoors carries these lines, and their Dockers are just under $50, and are really a good comfortable standby for everyday wear. Tube socks are recommended with these shoes. The calf lengths are acceptable. I prefer to wear ankle length with the running shoes; they just seem to feel better inside the shoe.

The men's shoe trends for fall 2009 that reside in the dressy department, step out looking richly inviting. Prada's ankle laces up boots are on the high end of style, with a pricy tag of $829, compared to Alberto Fasciani's ankle huggers at $654. Both brands carry their classic black sleek dress shoes at $750 and $425 respectfully. JC Penny's carries their dress brand boots and classic blacks, at an easier price to walk out about in. Their fall line of ankle boots, like Florsheim walk right under the line of $100, and their classic black dress shoes, Nunn Bush come in at $70, a truly dressy price and well worth the money. Wear a pair of nice trouser socks that compliment the color of the shoe. The thinner the sock the better. Nothing spells cheap like wearing thick black socks with a sleek dresser classic shoe.

For the work boots, the best brands seem to always be the steel-toed brand of Cat, Wolverine and Caterpillar. Prices for these work mules range from $70 to $160. There is not a better way to have insurance on the protection of your feet, than wearing a pair of these high quality boots. A good pair of thick socks is recommended to wear when trying on these boots, and when the boots are in daily use.

In between the workday boots and the Sunday shiners, come the Saturday relaxation groups of Athletic wear. Nike's running shoes start at a respectable $70 and Puma hangs in there with the same price. Nike backs down on the price with their basketball shoes coming in at $40 and that is comparable with 1 Rocket Mid's brand of $40. Of course, Reebok and New Balance have them both beat at $30, and are just as comfortable as the two more expensive brands.

The men's shoe trends for fall 2009 really have some great line ups. With a little bit of walking around and checking out the prices, styles and fit, the right shoes can be found.
