The Top 5 Potty Training Products

Sarah Lipoff
Potty training is hard, and you don't have to do it alone. There are lots of fantastic products out there to make the whole process easier, and to help your potty trainer love the potty. Take some pressure of yourself, and try out these top 5 potty training products.

The Musical Potty Seat
I don't know about you, but singing a song while using the bathroom isn't high on my list, but it sure is fun for your little one. There are several brands of musical potty seats out there, but the basic concept is sensors in the potty kick in when moisture hits them sending out a song to enjoy as reward for using the potty. Potty Patty Potty Musical Chair comes in pink and blue (http://www.pottypatty.com/Patty-Musical-Chair.html) and is around $20. There are a couple other option such as the Twinkle Toons Musical Potty Chair, (http://www.tinkletoonz.com/) also around $20. These potty chairs are a fun way to make using the potty interesting and provide a reward at the same time.

Potty Dolls
Dolls are a great way to assist with potty training. Kids love dolls and imaginary play, so introducing dolls when potty training is a wonderful way to let your child explore the concepts of potty training. Corolle makes great dolls, Paul for boys and Emma for girls (http://pottytrainingsolutions.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=305) and are around $50. The dolls come with removable clothing, disposable diaper, bottle, potty-chair, and pacifier. The Corolle dolls have an internal bladder that hold liquid and express it when their stomachs are pressed. Your child gives the doll a bottle, and then when ready, can help it use the potty.

On the Go
Having an on the go potty seat makes sure there are no accidents and disruptions in potty training. For a small investment of around $15 (http://shopping.aol.com/on-the-go-potty-travel-potty-chair-pink/28195079) you can ensure your little potty trainer doesn't miss a beat when traveling or in an unfamiliar location. Kalencom makes a seat that folds flat, but when needed, legs pop out and a clean and sanitary potty is ready for your child. Make sure to purchase liner re-fills, as they don't come with the seat.

Books
Books are a great way to introduce and enforce potty training. It doesn't matter if you have a boy or girl, there are many options that are beautifully written and illustrated. A couple good ones are The Princess and the Potty by Wendy Cheyette Lewison and Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi. Author Mo Willems has a fun book for potty training titled Time to Pee, and Alona Frankel's Once Upon a Potty is a true classic. Enjoying one of these stories, or any other of your choosing dealing with potty training, is a great way to bond with your potty trainer. Everyone loves to cuddle up with a good book.

Bathroom Supplies
This isn't just one product, but many, and a great way to get your child involved with potty training. By making a special trip to the store to load up on some pull ups, foaming hand soap, soft potty wipes, and even special potty training treats gives your potty trainer the ability to have some hands on action with the decision to start potty training. When the items are introduced to the bathroom, have them help put things in their spots and try everything out. This gives your child responsibility and some ownership over potty training and all the new activities happening in the bathroom.

Getting some new items will help make potty training a great process for everyone, but remember there will be bumps along the way, and patience and a positive attitude go far.
