The Top 5 Quarterbacks for the 2010 NFL Draft

Tyler Bilbo
Seeing as there are so many big name quarterbacks coming out for the draft this year I figured I would share my top five rankings of the position. I hope that each of these quarterbacks have long and successful careers in the NFL. I do not wish any harm to any of them. I am just stating my thoughts on what may or may not keep them from great success in the NFL systems.

#5 Tony Pike - Cincinnati

We will start with the number five quarterback on my list, Tony Pike. Throughout his career at Cincinnati, Tony Pike had a great career that led his team to many wins. Pike shows great accuracy, power, and the will to win. The biggest thing that concerns me is the amount of talent he faced at Cincinnati was not as tough as he needed to really test his skills. The toughest tests of his career were Virginia Tech and Oklahoma, which both ended in double digit losses for the bearcats. One other thing that scares me is the devistating ankle injury from last season. In most quarterbacks this would not be a problem, but since Pike is able to make plays on his feet it might have a more lasting affect than we think. From the level of play Pike comes from his abilities are great, but whether he can handle the upper levels is a big question mark.

#4 Jimmy Clausen - Notre Dame

For the number four slot on my quarterbacks list I went with Jimmy Clausen out of Notre Dame. Clausen has a powerful arm that could make him valuable to an NFL team. The only concern I have is with his accuracy. Clausen is not the least accurate quarterback by any means, but he did not display a lot of accuracy to me during his game play. The biggest key to Notre Dames little success over the past year was the Clausen could chunk the ball deep while Golden Tate ran to it and caught it. Clausen is still a solid pick for any NFL team, but his accuracy and decision making are things they will have to work on improving it he ever wants to make it big in the NFL.

#3 Sam Bradford - Oklahoma

On my quarterbacks list I have Sam Bradford at number three. In college it is true that Bradford played excellent games and turned a lot of heads with his game day performances, but I just do not think it was against the strongest of opponents. During Bradford's tenure at Oklahoma he only went up against an SEC team once and had a decent game except for two interceptions, but the Sooners still came up short losing 24-14. Whether his true skills against tough opponents have truly been seen is not my biggest reason for the number three spot. The biggest reason for me is his AC joint sprain. I know everyone says that it is fine now and that he will not have any more problems with it, but I believe that when he starts receiving NFL style hits it will become a nagging injury that we will unfortunately see again and again.

#2 Tim Tebow - Florida

My number two quarterback in the 2010 draft has to be Tim Tebow. Tebow was his own caliber of player and showed that with his play and hard work. Throughout this whole season everyone, including myself, has said that Tim Tebow is not a pro-style quarterback and will not make it in the NFL. Over the past few months Tim Tebow has been proving us wrong. He has been working rigorously on his release times and drop backs. Tim Tebow is becoming more of a complete quarterback, when this is mixed in with his outstanding character and leadership, I do not see how an NFL team could pass him up.

#1 Colt McCoy - Texas

The number one ranking in my quarterbacks list has to be Colt McCoy out of Texas. Over the past four years, as a Texas longhorn, Colt McCoy has broken many long time standing records and led his team to a bowl game every year. There have not been any big injury concerns for McCoy either. The only game he missed even a quarter of was the 2010 National Championship Game due to a shoulder injury. Colt McCoy is the best quarterback in the draft due to his great play and extreme dedication.
