The Top 5 Reasons to Avoid Teenage Boys

Louisa Burgess
5-They smell bad.
Seriously this can be a huge problem. Something occurs especially in young teenage boys, when the hormones begin to kick in. They forget to change their socks; they magically don't notice their own body odor; and the t-shirt they wear the most could probably get up and walk to the laundry room by itself. An allergy to soap and water can develop so if you have one of these special creatures in your home, watch for that. If you don't but you see one walking down the sidewalk, be careful not to walk down-wind. Oh yes, before I forget, passing gas is a favorite pass time of theirs. Thankfully in a couple of years, it varies per boy, this stage in their development passes only to be replaced by another stage almost equally as obnoxious.

4-They smell like a bottle of cologne poured over them.
I'm relatively sure that you have noticed this particular quick common to teenage boys who have come to that point in life where they want girls to notice them. In our house, we referred to this as the "French Whore" stage, affectionately of course. Out of no where, the 15-16 year old boy who only yesterday smelled like a dirty sneaker in which a hamster died, comes bounding down the stairs filling the air with a smell not unlike the entire perfume counter at Macy's. So much so, that you get an instant headache and wonder how anyone could possibly stand to sit next to him at a movie. Along with the strong smell of Driven Black, accompanying the boy in this stage will be something sitting on his head that feels like porcupine needles. It hurts to touch it. It's his hair!

3- Have you seen their room?
I know dirt doesn't necessarily breed disease but rotting food, old pizza boxes and all the other filth found in many a teenage boy's room does give pause for concern. One of the worst offenders is the half full can of soda under the bed that is collecting ants which is sitting next to the three-quarters eaten candy bar doing more or less the same thing. Truthfully, don't you think anyone living happily in those conditions might have a problem with hygiene? Remember too that when they enter the "French Whore" stage and may actually be smelling good, a bottle of cologne is capable of masking many a sin. Ask anyone who ever used one to hide their cigarette smoking from their parents.

2-Is their mouth moving? Then chances are they are lying.
Does this sound overly harsh to you? Think about it. This same thing can be said for drunks and drug addicts. It's the natural tendency of people who are doing something that isn't approved. Chances are that if that nice young 15 year old altar boy next door is normal, he's also doing something his parents or you wouldn't approve of, on the side of course. It's a rare adult, parent, teacher or any authority figure who can get a teenager to tell them the truth all the time. If you can do it, my hat's off to you. But consider this. Did you ever lie when you were that age? To your parent's? Come on tell the truth!

1-They don't particular like you.
This my friends and associates is the number one reason to avoid any boy between the age of 13 and 18. They don't like you either. They may love you, especially if you are their mom or grandma. They may respect you if you've done your job right, especially if you are their dad or grand-dad, or rich uncle. You may just have to trust me on this, but they really would rather be spending their time with their peers, they really don't enjoy your company anymore than you enjoy theirs, probably less. You are old, you are boring, you have a disdain for their music probably and less of an appreciation for whatever cult like horror movie is the bomb right now. You can have a pretty good conversation with an intelligent, kind-hearted one, but be aware that they are "making nice." And this isn't a bad thing. After all, aren't you?
