The Top 5 Styles of Summer Decoration

Bridget Ilene Delaney

When decorating your house for guests or a picnic area for the summer, you want to make it attractive. Here are the top five summer decorating themes for houses, patios, and picnic areas.

Contrasting Colors

You never want colors to clash. However, you do want a place to look interesting. If you have a majority of one certain color or one certain variety of color, look for a contrasting color. This color can show up in small places like napkins, decorations on plates, and throw pillows.

Preppy Designs

Use patterns and bold colors, especially patterns that are done with bold colors with plain colors such as white and beige. This way the eye is drawn to the bold colors. There are also places where plain colors are dominant so the eyes can easily rest and are not overwhelmed by busy patterns.

Coastal Decor

Coastal decor is supposed to remind people of being on the coast or being on the beach. Walls should be a pastel color to remind people of the light blue or light green of the sea or the ocean. Furniture and walls should be beige or light brown to remind people of the sand. Add decorations such as shells and sea animal themed knick knacks to complete the feel.

Bold Colors

Rooms where you want to let people relax such as the living room and bedrooms can stay light colors, pastel colors, and cool colors. However, places like the kitchen and the dining room can be decorated in bold colors. Think of dark purples and maroons for the colors. Put these in patterns such as triangles or waves. After a main color is chosen, use a lighter shade of that color to complete the pattern and the look.

Flowers and Simple Dishes

If you want to keep a calm feeling, but also want decoration, keep the cool colors and add floral designs. The flowers can be light colors or they can be bold colors. Flowers can be real if you like to keep live plants. If you are not the type of person who is good at keeping live plants, flowers can be fake. Decorate with these flowers and plants. Then get dishes that match to complete the look.
