The Top 5 Things We Can't Afford This Fall

But Maybe We Really Wished We Could!

AB
This short piece takes a humorous view of the tight finances of many Americans in fall 2007. The Internet is full of wonderful ideas of how to spend our money. Sometimes it is wise to avoid opening up and reading popular sites like Yahoo! It is easy to get depressed about how we can't afford them.

1. Buying a house. While many Americans are losing their homes, others are postponing buying one.

2. Taking a trip to see fall foliage. According to Yahoo! on 10/4, the top spot for viewing fall foliage is Boston, Massachusetts. I did that trip in October 2004.

3. Buying a fancy adult costume for Halloween '07! I've never done that. Maybe next year!

4. Brand name Trick-or-Treat candy. Hey, Wal-Mart and other retailers offer great deals. Why pay $5 a bag when you can pay $3?

5. Deodorant. This is a serious crisis; but in most climates, we will be saving on deodorant in the upcoming months. This is actually a product for which coupons are available.

Our financial situations are so pathetic that we just have to laugh about them. What else is there to do?

We all definitely need to have a sense of humor in the midst of all that's going with the economy and world around us.
