The first thing to consider is the safety of the vehicle. We want our precious gems to have a safe journey wherever they are going. This is decided by the government issues frontal crash test. The 2010 Chevy Silverado earned a top 5 star rating in this category. Our runner up was the 2009 Mitsubishi Raider. It earned a 5 star rating for the driver and a 4 star rating for the front passenger. The Nissan Frontier rated 4 stars and the 2007 Sierra Classic earned 4 stars for the driver and 3 stars for the front passenger. The 2010 Dodge Dakota only scored an "Acceptable" rating. Making it our last qualifier.
The fuel mileage category holds a lot of clout as this can save a lot of money in the long run. Horsepower was also taken into consideration. This makes the 2010 Chevy Silverado rank first as it puts out 295 horsepower and still maintains 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Next in line is the 2007 GMC Sierra Classic1500. It is putting out 285 horsepower and maintaining 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. The 2010 Dodge Dakota and the 2009 Nissan Frontier tie for third as both put out 210 horsepower and maintain 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Last but not least is the 2009 Mitsubishi Raider. It holds that 210 horsepower but only gets 14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.
Determining the ease of entry and exit was done by how far off the ground the cab is located. However this does not take into consideration any lift that may or may not be applied to the pickup that you choose to look at. Our lowest pickups are the Mitsubishi Raider and the Dodge Dakota at 7.9". Next is the GMC Sierra Classic 1500 at 8.7" and the Chevy Silverado at 9". Our highest pickup is the Nissan Frontier at 10.1".
In the organization and interior storage category the pickups rank as follows, the Dodge Dakota, Mitsubishi Raider, Nissan Frontier, Chevy Silverado and then the GMC Sierra. The Mitsubishi Raider is considered to have the best visibility, next the Nissan Frontier and Chevy Silverado and lastly the GMC Sierra and Dodge Dakota.
Good luck to all you Mom's about to make you first and best pickup choice!
