Narwhals
Narwhals are not truly unicorns. This is because they do not have horns. Instead, each narwhal has a tusk. The tusk of a narwhal does look a traditional unicorn horn. The tusk pokes straight out and has spirals like the mythical unicorn horn. The narwhal tusk was often sold as a unicorn horn.
Rhinoceros
Rhinoceroses can have one or two horns. The rhinoceroses with one horn on their faces are true unicorns. This is because the word "unicorn" literally means "one horn." Of course, rhinoceroses are not as pretty as the mythical unicorns or even horses. However, one-horned rhinoceroses are truly natural unicorns. Sometimes the two-horned rhinoceroses can look as though they have one horn if seen from certain angles.
Meller's Chameleon
A Meller's Chameleon is a pretty animal. It has pretty colors that camouflage it among the plants where it lives. It is always green striped and has green and black dots. The Meller's Chameleon is a natural unicorn. It has a small horn that grows from the front of the face.
One-Horned Goats
One-horned goats were often passed as unicorns. There are no natural one-horned goats. The goats were always two-horned. However, over time, people were able to breed the goats so the horns grew so close together that they grew as one horn, even though they were two separate horns.
Oryx
Oryxes are a type of antelope. Oryxes have two horns each. However, each horn is so thin that there are many angles that make it look like oryxes have only one horn each. This made people think that they were natural unicorns.
It is at least known that there are animals that occur in nature with only one horn. However, none of them look like horses with a horn in the middle of the forehead. Those unicorns are still best left in the imaginations of people who want to believe in them.

Post a CommentAs an aside, I actually liked 'The Last Unicorn.' Of course, I watched it when younger, so I might not like it as much now.
Excellent, as always. I always thought it would be nice to have a unicorn until I thought of all the work involved keeping him clean and beautiful.
