Here are the top five winter wedding trends that are easy to accomplish on a budget.
Going Vintage
The green and vintage trend has been going strong for a while now, and here's hoping it is one that continues. A vintage theme, or even just a couple vintage touches, is great for your budget , but also very hot for winter weddings in 2009. Easy vintage winter wedding trends on a budget include using your parents wedding topper, a vintage wedding dress or bridesmaid gowns, and vintage glassware to be used as centerpieces or vintage serving dishes.
The Dress
Ball gowns are back in style in 2009 and a winter wedding is the most appropriate time of the year to step into one. The classic winter wedding ideas are centered around a winter wonderland, so a ball gown fits right into the opulence and glitter that is a winter wedding. Understandably, ball gowns are a little more expensive, but shopping early and browsing sales is a great way to stay within budget. Trunk shows can be a great way to get that gown that you have been looking for at a very reduced price.
Pared Down Wedding Cakes
Wedding cakes have gone through a series of trends in the last few years, in many cases being disassembled entirely. But the wedding cake is back, and the current winter wedding trend is a little more budget friendly-- thankfully. Compact, but ornate wedding cakes made up of just a couple tiers, instead of eight, are one of the biggest trends right now and are a great way to save money. These smaller cakes can be just as impressive and customized as the cupcake trend or larger cakes that have been used for years.
Bolder Colors
Pastels and lighter shares of color has always been popular for weddings, even winter weddings tend to go for a lightly frosted look. For 2009, colors are taking on a bolder appearance, with brides opting for rich jewel tones that fit a winter wedding well. Deck your bridesmaids out in jewel tone versions of your wedding color of choice. At this time of year these colors are more abundant so there are bound to be more choices at a better price.
Beverage Additions
Last year I attended a winter wedding and was pleased with the additions to the beverage menu, which are not only welcome additions in the winter, but family friendly. Since then, I have seen the addition of hot chocolate, tea, hot cider and other warm winter favorites gaining in popularity. In addition to a cocktail hour, invite your guests in from the cold with a warm cup of hot chocolate or hot apple cider.
