The Top 6 MLB Free Agents for 2008

Richard McDuff
The 2008 MLB Free Agency is as good as it was bad in 2007. There are a good number of great players ready to change teams for more good old fashion cash. Many mercaneries love to go to the highest bidder, and there are over 190 mercaneries in this Free Agency. . Below are my picks for the top 6 Free Agents.

I was going to pick 5, but I feel that Manny Rameriz should be included in this list. Many people think that Manny Rameriz should be higher than 6, I just think that his age is going against him. The other players all in their prime, whereas Manny is probably entering the twilight of his career. He played well for the Dodgers, but hey, it was a contract year. We all know how good a player plays in his contract year.

1) CC Sabathia, SP: At 28 years of age Sabathia is by far the best Starting Pitcher on the market. He has no history of injury, and 2008 was one of his best seasons. He had a 17 wins and 10 losses, he had 256K, and a 3.83 ERA with Cleveland and a 1.65 ERA with Milwaukee. .

2) Mark Teixeira, 1B: At 28 years of age Mark Teixeira is in his prime. He had 33 HRs, and 122 RBIs in 2009. He is Mr Consistent and has had virtually no sustaining injuries in his career.

3) Adam Dunn, OF: At 29 years of age, he will still hit 40 HRs (he has had 4 - 40 HR seasons in a row.) He will also knock in 100+ RBIs. He will walk 100+ and strikeout about 165+.

4) A.J. Burnett, SP: At 31 years of age, AJ Burnett had a good season in a hitters park. He was 18-10 W/L record. He struck out 231 batters in 221 innings. Considering he was pitching in a hitters park, his ERA of 4.07 was pretty good, it was around the Leagues average.

5) Francisco Rodriguez, RP: At 26 years of age Rodriquez is entering his prime. He should be able to duplicate his 40+ saves over the last 4 years or even his 62 of last year. A good closer is a hard commodity to find. The Angels should never let this RP leave.

6) Manny Ramirez, OF: At 36 I was hard pressed to rank him any higher. With 37 HRs, 120 RBIs and a .300+ BA, it is tempting to rank Mr RBI higher, but there are so many good pitchers on the market this year.

There are so other good free agency players this year, ie, Furcal, Wood, Burrell, Abreu, etc. This is an exciting Free Agency year, I am looking forward to where some of the players will be going.
