The Top 7 Anti-Valentine's Day Songs

Bridget Ilene Delaney
Valentine's Day is quickly approaching. For those without a partner it seems to be "singles awareness day," because people tend to walk hand in hand and let each other know how much they are in love. It makes singles feel really awful.

So, for the singles on this Valentine's Day, here are the best Anti-Valentine's Day songs.

Love Stinks by J. Geils Band

What else can be said for those who are not in love? There's probably at least one reason they feel this way. Here's a great song that will help them express how they feel without even needing to say a single word. The song says everything.

Love Hurts by Nazareth

This is a perfect sentiment for an anti-Valentine's Day song. What else would those who are not happy about not having love or losing love want to say?

Everything About You by Ugly Kid Joe

This song is probably how most people feel about an ex that dumped them or all the people walking around them on Valentine's Day showing off how much they are in love. This song is the perfect song to play to those creepy exes.

Ocean Gypsy by Renaissance

This song has a very eerie tune. It also talks about a woman whose love was taken away and she lived out her life and nobody even notice when she died.

You're Breakin' My Heart by Harry Neilsson

This song tends to use the f word lots. However, it is definitely good for those not in the mood for love, especially if a relationship has recently ended.

Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meatloaf

This is a song about what was supposed to be one night. The girl who wants the guy to love her forever wants his promise that he will love her forever. However, it is not what he wants, but he makes that promise and then he prays for it to be the end of time. It's a story many can probably tell. This is a great Anti-Valentine's Day song because of how many can probably listen to it and cry or recall a similar story.

Cruel to be Kind by Letters to Cleo

This song isn't completely anti-Valentine's as the lyrics are, "I've got to be cruel to be kind." However, it is still more anti-Valentine's and anti-love than a lot of songs. Plus, it is going to be a sad song this year because of Heath Ledger's death. He starred in 10 Things I Hate About You and Letters to Cleo had songs in that movie.

Hey Bridget! I was thinking about this topic before I ran across this! Excellent choices, I was glad to see "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" on there. I've always loved the irony in that song ("Now I'm waiting for the end of time, to hurry up and arrive...") Now it's going to be stuck in my head again, thanks.

A fun idea for a v-day piece. One of the BBC radio stations did something like this, where they ran an hour of love songs, and then an hour of anti-love songs, so that there would be something for everyone on valentine's day :)

I'm really blah this Valentine's and am trying to ignore it. For me it is also because a good friend of mine died on Feb 11 three years ago and so I usually think of that. she wouldn't want me to be sad but it is hard not to be.

Great line up! I can really take or leave Valentine's day, but the flowers are nice to spruce up the homestead for a bit.

I'm engaged but I hate V-day anyways, ha!
