The Top Activities in Kauai

Joe Davis
Kauai is a place filled with lush tropical plants, and beaches that seem to stretch into the sunset. This island boasts a wide variety of activities from surfing and snorkeling in the warm waters to hiking and site seeing on the inland. Trips to Kauai always seem to fly by and most people never have enough time to do their desired itinerary. I will take you through the top five activities that you should accomplish before your trip is over.

5. Waimea Canyon On the west half of the island is referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific and for good reason. The canyon is sculpted into the colorful landscape that covers the ten mile long and one mile wide opening that many visitors view everyday. The canyon is best in the early morning when the sun is rising and at evening, because the light makes the colors more vibrant.

4. The Princeville Resort is known for it's highly manicured properties and elegant décor along with a hefty price tag. But even if you are not willing to sell the house for a vacation, you should still buy a cocktail and drink it on the balcony of the resort overlooking Hanalei Bay. The views here at sunset are of orange streaks glowing behind the fame Bali Hai and the sounds of waves crashing right off the beach. The drinks are reasonably priced but they should charge for the immaculate views and serve drinks on the side.

3. Kauai has the some of the most thrilling beaches on all the islands for their beauty and for the fun they possess. Tunnels Beach is a two mile long sandy beach that offers great views of the sunset and is right below Bali Hai. But the best feature of this beach is underwater; the reef just offshore is like no other in Hawaii. The Reef here offers calm shallow waters and is very diverse in fish and coral. Snorkeling is very popular here but underwater caves on the outer edges make for great dive spots.

2. Kauai's most photographed location is the Na Pali coast, which is featured in the Jurassic Park movies. This rigid coast is home to an eleven-mile trail that stretches almost across the entire coastline and offers great views for those who make the multi day hike to the end. Only serious hikers are recommended to complete this entire trail but many visitors complete the first two-mile that lead to a private isolated beach that overlooks the open Pacific Ocean.

1. Kauai does have a lot of activities but in the rush you should make sure to take a day out and lay at a beach. The number one activity you need to complete when visiting Kauai is to take a day and do absolutely nothing more than to lay on the beach and take an occasional swim. This may sound boring but when you are laying in the warm sun with a cool breeze gliding over you and the waves crashing just a few feet in front of you, it's easy to forget all the worries you have left behind. There a large majority of beaches on Kauai and finding a isolated one all to yourself isn't that hard to do but can make your day that much better.

So on your trip to Kauai, make sure to try and complete these activities but at the very least make sure to take advantage of the relaxing abilities of a good day at the beach.
