The Top Five Books that Make You Wish to Travel

Rachel Heller
People have many pastimes and two of those pastimes might be reading and traveling. In fact, two of my favorite pastimes are reading and traveling. But, what makes people want to travel? Reading books often motivate people to travel. It is important to understand that isn't just travel books that could motivate people's desire to travel. In fact, there are many fiction and non fiction books that could motivate people's desire to travel. I know that there are some books that I have read that have inspired to travel all over the world; in addition reading books about faraway places makes me feel as if I have traveled, for instance, to Greece, just by reading the book. In fact, I enjoy reading so much that I have decided to list my top five books that make me want to travel. Therefore, here are my top five books that give me motivation to travel.

1. In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson: This book makes me want to travel to Australia because it is a very well written and funny book about Australia and Australians. People will start laughing from page one and will not stop laughing until the end. It took a while to read In a Sun- burned Country because I was laughing so much. I loved the part about all the deadly bugs that Australia houses and I loved the part about Bryson's friends telling him it is okay to swim in the water and then telling him to get out of the water quickly due to jellyfish. I also enjoyed his stories about how Australia is basically a forgotten country. In a Sunburned country also illustrates how friendly Australians are to each other and to visitors. In a Sunburned country is a non- fiction book.

2. Three Junes by Julia Glass: This book talks about three generations of the same family. Three Junes makes me want to travel to Greece, Scotland, and New York because Julia Glass talks vividly about all three locations. In addition, this book gives me the motivation to travel because I long to travel internationally. Three Junes is a fiction book.

3. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares: This book is about four best friends who find a pair of jeans in a thrift store. The jeans fit each of them so they decide to each wear them during the summer and tell the others about their adventures while they are wearing the pants. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants inspires me to travel because it has the word traveling in the title. In addition, this book is very loving and it is about friendship. I also wanted to travel when a read this book because the pants travel around the world from Baja California, Greece and in between and they tell a story. In fact, I almost wished that I could have worn the jeans too.

4. Moveable Feasts by Sarah Murray: This book enlightens the reader about how much the food that we eat goes through before it end up on our dinner tables. In this book readers learn about where olive oil and bananas come from and just how politics, culture, and food come together. Moveable Feasts makes me want to travel because I love to cook and bake; in addition I am a big history buff. Therefore, I want to find out where some of my favorite food come from and I wish to travel to these destinations.

5. My Life in France by Julia Child and Alex P'homme: This book is about Julia Child's journey from housewife to master French chef. This book makes me want to travel because it talks about her life in France with her husband Paul and her friends. This book also gives readers insight to French art, French cooking and French culture. I have always wanted to travel to France and reading My Life in France has inspired me to hopefully travel to France soon.

These are my five book that inspire me to travel; happy reading and bon voyage everyone.
