The Top Five Children's Board Games of All Time

There are so many board games out there that children get so much joy our off. Some has been around so long that not only have our children played them but so have we when we were young kids ourselves. Those ones that have been around for a few generations are classics.

My first pick is Bingo. Bingo has a standard layout of 5x5 with 25 squares contained on the board. There can be numbers, pictures of shapes, letters, math equations, or whatever you want on the board depending on the age you're targeting. Each player gets their own individual board and twenty-five chips. The chips are used to cover the spaces. A caller, calls out the number, shape, or whatever you're using on your board one by one. If you have what's called out you cover it with a chip. Whoever gets five in a row across, horizontally, vertically, or diagonal first yells out bingo and it the winner of the game.

Another awesome game that's been around for a long time is Chutes and Ladders. The object of this game is for the player marker (game piece) to make it to the top of the game board first. It's pretty tricky because you roll a die but is you land at the top of a slide you slide back down or if you land at the bottom of a ladder you go up, up, up, and away!

Checkers is of course an all time favorite for many children. Each place has twelve checkers and the board has 64 spaces. The object of the game is for the player to reach the other side without being captured. Once a player makes it across to the other side the player's piece becomes a king. Once a piece becomes a king they are allowed to move across the board instead of just one space at a time. The game ends when one player finally captures all the other player's pieces.

Scrabble is also a great word game. The game board has squares which up to four players can play. First each player gets seven tiles and each tile has a letter of the alphabet or a blank tile which can be substituted for any letter. The object of the game is to earn the highest point score possible from the words spelled. It seems simple but it isn't a easy win because some letter are worth more than others. The best part about Scrabble is that is a great way for children to improve their spelling.

Trouble is easy game for children to learn it can be played with 2 to four players. Each player chooses a color and they have for pawn to get home. It's a mad dash around the board without getting bumped back to home. How many spaces a player moves is determined by the roll of the die. It doesn't involve reading so a child as young as four can play it easily and have fun for hours.
