The Top Five Controversial Subjects to Avoid to Be Popular at Parties

Barbie Crafts
We all want to be honest and straightforward in the things that we say and do. However, there are situations where polite and noncontroversial subjects are the only choice. There is a time for everything!

If want to be more popular at parties, you should avoid these top five controversial subjects. A party or other social function is not the proper place for a heated disagreement, which can create a scene, too.

1. Religious Doctrine

Engaging in a heated argument about deep religious doctrine does not help you to be popular at parties. It really does not draw people to your faith, either. Most of us who are Christians desire to spread our faith in our everyday lives. A heated theological argument does not do that.

2. Politics

Being very pushy and outspoken about your political views is usually a mistake anywhere, but especially at a social gathering. In many careers, it is wise to keep your political views private to avoid possible repercussions, especially if you work for a government entity.

3. Racial Issues

Not only to be popular, but to be civil and avoid physical harm, never make racial inferences of any kind. This means racial jokes of any kind, too.

4. Working Versus Stay at Home Moms

Oddly, one of the most controversial subjects that you should avoid is the advantages of moms staying home or working. This is one of the most sensitive parenting issues that people face; most women on both sides feel a little uncertain about their choices.

5. Personal Information

Stay away from discussing personal information at parties and social gatherings, whether your own or someone else's private business. Other people usually feel awkward when too much information (TMI)is injected into the conversation. This is an important controversial subject area to avoid to help you be popular at parties.
