For those who love history, there is no better place to visit in Norway than Trondelag. Most of the Norwegian church history can also be found here. Many museums a-bound and there are many places to ski in the south and there are also gorgeous plains here as well. It is a place where nature and a little of the past create a perfect balance. The following is a list of the top five most interesting things to do in Trondelag. It will be sure to make your vacation that much more perfect.

5) Architecture, Nidarios Domkirke

This cathedral is absolutely amazing and it is the most visited attraction in Trondheim. The cathedral was initially built in the Romanesque style, but during its renovations it was given a gothic style. The two elements make it quite a sight to see. This cathedral has been a place of pilgrimage for over a thousand years due to the burial of Saint Olaf on the premise. Tours are available in a variety of different languages. There is an amazing cemetery and many beautiful elements to the architecture. It is a must see site.

4) Museum, The Archbishop's Palace

In 1983 all that was on the property was two storage buildings. When they burnt to the ground in the 1980s, this museum was built on the property. After the fire many archeological finds were found and are now a part of the museum. Even the archbishop's mint is on display here. The sculptures here are absolutely amazing as well. It is a nice museum and even received a top award in 1998 for the Norwegian Museum of the Year. It is located next to Nidarios Domkirke.

3) Art, Sverresborg Trondelag Folk Museum

Sverresborg Trondelag Folk Museum is the largest open air folk museum in Norway. There are many different parts to the museum. First, you are taken on an excursion to the ruins of the medieval castle of Sion. Here is a stave church that involves an exhibit showing life in the 1900s. It then goes all the way back to 1170. Then you are taken to a working farm to experience daily life there. Then you are finally taken to the life pictures exhibit where the last one hundred and fifty years are shown. The shop is a neat place to visit as well.

2) Rafting, Fjord Rafting

Fjord rafting is a wonderful experience form a wonderful company. The Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) reaches almost eighty miles per hour and is quite a thrilling experience. The rafting goes over the Trondheimfjord and to one of the islands. Longer tours are available over the open ocean. While the price is about one hundred and fifty-seven dollars a person, it is well worth it and there are group discounts available.

1) Beaches, Munkholmen

Munkholmen has a wonderful history and on top of it the beaches are absolutely incredible. Munkholmen is located on an island, therefore; the only way it can be reached is by the ferry. The ferry is only about a ten minute ride and quite enjoyable. It usually runs regularly from May to September. In the 11th century it was a monastery, it was then a prison, a fort, and then a customs house. It was even Trondheim's execution grounds at one point. There are tours available, a café, and a shop. There are also many places in which to have a picnic. It is an amazing place to visit unlike any other.
