The Top Five PS2 Games

I owned a Playstation 2, I played it quite frequently. However, in my top five picks for best games of the system you will not find God Of War. God Of War really seems to have been the game many gamers using the PS2 system used to define their fanboydom. I've never even played a God of War game, but the following five games were a lot of fun for me!

5. Blitz: The League - Blitz: The League did not even try to compete with other football game franchises, such as Madden. Instead it cut a new path of violent arcade fun in which you play with fake, smaller football teams in a fictional league. Not only do you get to try and break the bones of your opponents, you also dope your players up with illegal drugs to boost their performances. (Not that I am saying using drugs is fun.) This game can be frustrating when you go on a losing streak, but playing with a second person who you can stand being in the same room with for extended periods of time: provides loads of entertainment.

4. Killzone - Killzone was a Sony PS2 exclusive and for first person shooter fans thinking they were missing out on things without Halo on PS2: it was the answer. Killzone as environments that can be a bit drab and repetitive, but overall I had loads of fun working my way through the game. I will not claim to remember every little thing about it or any stand out moments, but I can say I enjoyed it better than Killzone 2 on the PS3.

3. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance - The hack and Slash genre bores some, but ful entertains me when done right. Baldur's Gate games are right on, with in depth gameplay layered in with the hours of gold collecting and monster slashing.

2. Twisted Metal Black - The Twisted Metal series of games still reigns supreme above all other game series for me. Twisted Metal Black was fun as both a solo game and in multiplayer. However, even with all the fun I was able to get out of it I did find the stories involved this time were way too repetitive with each characters movie being the same, just tweaked slightly. If you seek this one out, go for the M rated version, not the T rated one; which rumor has it the M rated version was edited quite a bit as well.

1. Half-Life - Amazing. A first person shooter video game that did not rely on mindless shooting, but came with a strong back bone of character and developed tone. This game was what you would call: engrossing. Sure it was another weird creatures attacking sort of sci-fi scenario, but displayed with excellent level design. Half-Life was the perfect challenge; a great game.
