Here are the top five ways that you can save money to gain control of your finances.

1. Avoid Credit Cards

Credit cards have destroyed more people's financial situation than anything. The high interest rates are only part of the equation; many times there are even monthly fees in addition to the interest rates that are charged. Think how much an item actually costs by the time you pay interest and fees.

2. Start a Savings Account

Target a certain, manageable amount of money to be saved out of each paycheck. It is even better if you can have this deducted before you receive your check through the credit union or other service.

3. Develope a Frugal Attitude

Begin to evaluate your purchases in light of the price. Do you really need that? Why not consider it a while before buying it.

Comparison shop for the best buys. Learn to check thrift stores or other venues for used items when possible. Search out the bargains in your town.

4. Clip Coupons

You can save massive amounts of money by using coupons, and you will be purchasing higher quality goods. If you learn how to work the system with sales and double coupons, you can save much more than you ever thought possible.

5. Buy In Quantity

You do not have to belong to a warehouse shopping club to buy in quantity. When CVS has the deals with toilet paper, for instance, and you can get CVS bucks back, buy a bunch. No more going out late at night and paying two dollars for one roll at the nearby convenience market when you run out.

Final Thoughts

There are many was to save money, and you will undoubtedly find your own. The first step in saving money is learning to think before you spend.
