The Top Games of 2009

Gamers Rejoice! 2009 is Going to Be a Great Year for Gaming!

Thomas Kearo
With everything seeming to be going downhill in the world right now, one thing is looking up. Video Gaming. 2009 is going to lead to the birth of some of the best game titles in a long time. We've been waiting for Starcraft II for a while now and that will be popping up this year. Diablo III, the expansion on the best selling adventure game series will be making it's debut in 2009, and we're going to see a new Final Fantasy game. It's shaping up to be a great year for gamers worldwide in 2009. Let's get started!

Final Fantasy XIII

The Final Fantasy franchise has forever been one of the most successful families of video games ever created. From loyal fanboys to the casual gamer, the Final Fantasy series always has a rich storyline and a lot of action. Well, gamers throughout the world are lucky, because in 2009 we're going to be seeing an expansion of the franchise with Final Fantasy XIII. It's going to arrive on Playstation 3 mid year, but wait, Square Enix will also be releasing it on Xbox near the end of the year. So you Xboxers might have to wait a little bit longer, but it's better than the predecessors which were only launched on Sony consoles!

Punch-Out!

Any old school Nintendo gamer can tell you that there were few games as fun as punch out for the Nintendo system. Not only did you get to fight people, but it revolutionized graphic and was one of the first "3d" games ever made. This really served to bring the player into the game and was partially responsible for the game's success, the other factor being that it was just friggin' awesome fun! Nintendo knew what they were doing when they made this game, just like they know what they're doing now. We're going to be seeing a new Punch-Out title that's sure to tickle your nostalgia and bring you back to the good old days of pixelated punches, spitting opponents, and boxing gloves.

Starcraft II

Now, when I mention Final Fantasy XIII to a fellow gamer, most of them know what I'm talking about, but some don't. This is far from the case with the Starcraft franchise, by Blizzard Entertainment. Hailed as one of the most popular Real Time Strategy (RTS) games of all time by fans, this sequel is sure to blow the roof of the the RTS platform. We've already seen stunning visuals, screenshots, and video from the early development team over at Blizzard, and if they're even remotely representative, this is going to be an amazing game through and through.

Diablo III

Diablo III is the long awaited sequel to the Diablo franchise, also by Blizzard Entertainment. The company enjoyed a lot of success with the first game, but even more with the sequel. I'm predicting that success will keep it's exponential growth with the release of Diablo III. The beta videos show more gore, more insane class abilites and an improved combat system. It seems that Blizzard is getting everything right there days, from World of Warcraft, to Starcraft II to Diablo III, 2009 is going to be a great year for Blizzard Entertainment.
