The history of House Music pulsates from the fingers of Farley Jackmaster Funk who has created with fusing catchy rhythmic beats with gospel and soulful music that has been around since the Disco music died out in the early 1980's. Farley Jackmaster Funk is credited with bringing this special musical funk to the Chicago area. Ask any real Chicago House Music fan for their favorite house music deejays and they will praise the work of Andre Hatchett, Louie Vega and Frankie Knuckles as some of the best deejays in the genre that brought the music to a higher level. House music pours melodic beats and musical notes infused with catchy lyrics about love and life. This is an underground musical genre that many may not know about. Chicago house music enthusiasts are commonly referred to as "house" heads. With the Chicago House Music scene many house heads attend underground house parties in the basement of someone's home,or loft of a lounge that specifically hosts House Music parties. These parties are attended by those who want to listen to music that flows through their bodies and their spirits.

The top deejays of this genre spin house music classics at three venues in Chicago that are well attended. Many of the house heads used to attend some of the older venues like Sauers, Comfort Zone, The Humming Bird and Wharehouse during the Chicago House Music days in the early to mid 90's. The venues below are pretty well established, but you will not find these located on www.metromix.com. Most of the venues listed below you will know about by conversating with a Chicago House Music deejay or house head who attends House Music parties on a frequent basis.

Disco Madness at The Dating Game
This is a quaint lounge located on Chicago's South Side. There is no cover for charge to attend the free event, just make sure you get there early. This particular House Music set is strictly for mature adults in their late 20's through early 40's. Many enthusiasts grew up listening to house music as teens and love to reflect from time to time as they enter the Dating Game. Come on down to the Dating Game, located at 8926 S. Stoney Island, from 6pm to 2 am to enjoy the laid back ambiance of the venue. Bring your dancing game on and relax with like minded folks who just want to flow with the musicality of the House Music.

Vizions of House
Billed as "100% Grade A Authentic House Music". DJ Andre Hatchett spins every Wednesday from 8 pm to 2 am. Vizions is a lounge located at 8038 South Ashland Avenue on Chicago's south side. Not only a nice venue to attend, but there is Complimentary Cheesecake by Hans Cheesecake company. Call 773-418-6243 to get more information to attend this House Music set, which is hosted by Raymond Ramzy Hans.

House & Disco After Work Set at the Crocodile Lounge
Chicago WGCI's resident female deejay is one of the headliners of this Thursday night music set. Sundance, an early morning deejay of WCGI, one of Chicago's urban radio station spins along the side of Ron Troupe, DJ Emmanuel and Shaun T. There's a great mixture of old school music and disco music. The Crocodile Lounge is located at 221 West Van Buren (between Wells and Van Buren Streets in Chicago's Down Town Loop Area). Remember, it's every Thursday between 5pm and 9pm and there is no cover charge to attend this Chicago music favorite.

I regularly attend the Disco Nights at the Dating Game and it's a wonderful mixture of urban professionals and business entrepreneurs. There are music enthusiasts from as far as Lincoln Park and Edgewater, Chicago communities that are far from the south side of Chicago. But this shows you that House Music is universal. Whether you are a housewife, business manager, or a student, being able to step into Disco Nights transforms you to another time and place. You lean back and let the music take you where you need to go. It's not about different ethnicities, it's about the love of the music. The pulse of it, will take you, rip its rhythm through your spirit and you'll be better for it.

Chicago's House Music nights are very rare, as it is not a musical genre that many other music fans know about or love in other parts of the country. And these three venues in Chicago are centrally located so you can hear true music being spinned, to transport you to another musical plane. Why not visit one of these and enjoy the best in Underground Chicago House Music? Dance your cares away under the throbs of the music that will beat in your head, long after the song has ended.

This article was awesome. I remember the house music craze of the 80's. I was a young teen, but I remember going to the Armory, The Omni, and other venues that hosted dances with live DJ's spinning music. There were also a few clubs I remember as a teen Down In The Alley in Merrillville, Club Soda in Hammond, Medusa's in Chicago, the Riveria in Chicago.
