The Top Ten Songs by the Beatles

J Hoff
One of the hardest things I can think of in music is to list the ten best Beatles songs. The Beatles wrote and recorded so many excellent songs and I feel the band was one of those that delivered albums that pretty much held the same quality. Many songs stand out, but that just means that almost every band out there would be happy to write any Beatles song.

10. A Day In Life: Several songs mixed into one. This was a typical newspaper song for the Beatles, written based on events read about in the paper. If that means they were uninspired, it says a lot about the band!

9. I Am the Walrus: "I Am The Walrus" is said to be a song Lennon put together after he heard that school classed were analyzing songs written by the Beatles. "I Am The Walrus" was supposed to give them something to chew on.

8. She Loves You: This song stands out to me as one of the really good old ones. "She Loves You" has a very cool progression and it somehow breaks with how pop music should be written at the time. All over one of the Beatles' better ones.

7. I'm Looking Through You: I doubt this song is included in top 10 lists very often, but it's evidence that music can be easy and sound great. A special song to me.

6. Yesterday: This technically wasn't a Beatles song as it's all Paul McCartney. But since he released it with the band there is no way not to include it on this list.

5. All You Need Is Love: A signature song for the Beatles and pretty much what it was about. Sometimes when songs has a "good" message they end up sounding bad. Not this time.

4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps: I prefer the acoustic version of this one, but the album version is very good too. George Harrison at his best!

3. In My Life: A song that deserves to be mentioned more often. It's not necessarily underrated because people seemingly rate it high. But it deserves to be mentioned as much as the band's biggest hits.

2. I'm Only Sleeping: If sleeping was as good as this song, I'd do it all the time.

1. Strawberry Fields Forever: One of the defining songs by The Beatles. It all seems perfect, perhaps with the exception of the drum solo that doesn't make all that much sense to me.
