The Top Ten Songs by Guns N' Roses

J Hoff
Guns n' Roses are about as close the later generations got to The Beatles. Of course I don't mean in quality, but in phenomenon. The band did everything a true rock band should do, but unfortunately split up way too early. Four albums with original albums was far too little, but until «Chinese Democracy» is released, that's what we get. Here are my favorite songs of Guns n' Roses:

10.The Blues (Chinese Democracy?). This is a song that will probably be found on "Chinese Democracy", and I don't include it for the sake of it. It's actually good. It's like a Don't Cry mixed with November Rain part two. Only better than «Don't Cry».

9.Coma (Use Your Illusion I). I do like the long songs by Guns n' Roses and "Coma" is both neglected, overlooked and forgotten. Not many bands managed to make it rock for 10 minutes, but Guns n' Roses sure did.

8.Nightrain (Appetite For Destruction). While the guitar solo in Sweet Child O' Mine may be more famous, the Nighrain solo is about as good. And the song is about cheap liquor. That must work.

7.Patience (G N'R Lies). Whistling isn't the most popular thing you can do in a rock song. But sometimes it's classic - like in this song.

6.November Rain (Use Your Illusion I). A very different song from most of what is out there. A lot of people find it overproduced, but I disagree. I think it's one of those songs where everything is perfect.

5.Sweet Child O' Mine (Appetite For Destruction). Who doesn't remember that guitar riff? Another highlight is obviously the amazing guitar solo.

4.Rocket Queen (Appetite For Destruction). This song has to be one of the best closing songs of any albums. It both raises the standard again after a few slightly weaker songs, and it gives Appetite an ending.

3.Welcome To The Jungle (Appetite For Destruction). The Guns n' Roses' signature song with a classic intro riff.

2. Civil War (Use Your Illusion II). The closest thing you get to politics with Guns n' Roses. It sounds good, but the end is a little naive: "What's so civil about war anyway?". That question should be illegal to ask.

1. Estranged (Use Your Illusion II). I think the guitar melodies on this song may be the best ever. Slash nailed it even if it's Axl's song. And Axl should've fought more for it as he said he would.
