The top teen movies of all time. One of the biggest debates this country has ever faced. Well, maybe that is being a bit over-dramatic, but is that not what a great teen movie is? Every great teen movie has to have certain elements; drama, unrequited love, comedy, and that special something that sets it apart and makes it unique. Every teen movie on this list fulfills each of these requirements perfectly. Let me say upfront that many of you reading this will totally disagree with my choices, which is perfectly fine. Be sure to drop a comment to defend your choices that should be added, or subtracted, from this list. Let the debate, begin...
The Breakfast Club
Five students and one Saturday morning detention. Who has not seen the all time, undisputed, top teen movie of all time? This classic teen movie in which five students, each from a different high school clique, are all forced to spend one Saturday morning in detention, has become the bar that all other teen movies attempt to reach. The social structure of high school can be a barrier that each and every one of us knows can be a tough situation. The Breakfast Club teaches all of us that this can be overcome with a little bit of understanding, and one long Saturday stuck in a room together. True fans of teen movies can actually find The Breakfast Club, combined with two other great teen movies (Sixteen Candles - featured on this list - and Weird Science) on the High School Flashback Collection at Amazon.com.
Pretty in Pink
Another one of John Hughes' classic teen movies featuring Molly Ringwald, Pretty in Pink also tackles the pressures high school students in America face trying to fit in. When a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, Andie, is attracted to one of the rich kids, Blane, in school, her life is turned upside down after he gives her the attention she has so craved for years. With the help of her best friend, Duckie Dale, Andie learns to respect herself for who she is, and see others for who they really are. Pretty in Pink: Everything's Duckie Special Edition can be purchased from Hot Movie Sale.com.
Sixteen Candles
The third John Hughes movie to make this Ultimate Teen Movie list is Sixteen Candles. Again, Molly Ringwald plays an awkward high school girl who struggles to get through one of the most embarrassing sixteenth birthdays ever. After her parents forget her birthday, Samantha fills out a sex quiz that is meant for her best friend to see. This quiz finds its way into the hands of Jake Ryan, the popular guy Samantha has been after for years. Add in the school geek that is trying to get her panties, literally, her sister's wedding, and her grand-parents visiting, and you get a great teen movie about virginity and the pressures high school students face. Sixteen Candles: Flashback Edition is available at Barnes and Noble.com.
10 Things I Hate About You
A teen movie which is loosely based on William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You centers around the bad boy outcast of high school and the 'shrew'. When Cameron comes Padua High School and spots the popular Bianca, he is instantly smitten and makes it his goal to date her. The problem lies in Bianca's over worried father who has made the rule that she cannot date until her feminist daughter dates. This teen movie showcases the lengths teens will go to get what they want, while teaching teens it is OK to be yourself. 10 Things I Hate About You is available at Overstock.com.
Bring It On
A champion cheerleading squad realizes their newest cheers were stolen from a rival school's squad. The rival squad's problems get worse when they may not have the money to make it to the championships. Working hard for what you want, sportsmanship, and team work are all highlighted in this teen movie for the ages. Bring It On can be found at Movies Unlimited.com.
Not Another Teen Movie
A parody movie in the vein of Scary Movie, Not Another Teen Movie parodies all the above mentioned teen movie, plus more that just did not make onto my list. A fun teen movie for teens and adults, Not Another Teen Movie is a light-hearted look at the teen movie genre. Can you point out all the movies that are parodied? You can find Not Another Teen Movie at CD Universe.com.
Can't Hardly Wait
The biggest party of the school year is approaching and two students find that this is their chance to get what they have always wanted. One is after the popular girl, while the other is after revenge on a life-long bully. Another teen that proves anything is possible if you really believe in yourself and what you want. Can't Hardly Wait is available at Sony Style.com.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Harry Potter has always been different, and at age eleven finds out why - he is a wizard. In this installment of the series that made reading cool for kids and teens, Harry deals with evils that are out to destroy the good in the world and a deep loss of a close friend. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is not yet on DVD, but Amazon.com will have pre-orders ready as soon they are available.
The New Guy
An uncool and geeky high school student decides to reinvent himself at a new school to gain popularity and respect. When the popular girl at his new school starts to have eyes for him, Dizzy's ploy starts to unravel and he finds it is better for people to like him for who he is that to try and fit in with what people want you to be. The New Guy is available at Best Prices.com.

The fourth, and final, John Hughes' movie to make the Ultimate Teen Movie list, Ferris Bueller's Day Off follows three high school students as they skip school for a fun filled adventure through the city of Chicago while learning about friendship and honesty.
