The Top Ten Villains of Superman

S.R.
The Man of Steel, Superman. Everybody knows this character quite well, but outside of Luthor and General Zod perhaps most of the populace remains unaware of what a truly great Rogues Gallery this character has. Let's go over what Superman's villains can offer.

# 10 - Livewire
Though she first appeared on the Superman: The Animated Series cartoon, Leslie Willis has taken a life of her own. A shock jock radio DJ who verbally assaulted Superman at every turn, she was a villain even before her transformation. One lightning bolt later, and Livewire was born. With her electricity manipulation powers, she serves as a new and powerful villain for Clark Kent to tangle with.

# 9 - Titano
Titano was once a normal chimpanzee, used for experiment by the Government's space program. After an accident, Titano grew to gargantuan proportions and served as the King Kong of Superman lore.

# 8 - Toyman
The modern Toyman is a true villain for the ages. Don't be fooled by his name and his preference in using toy-based weapons. Toyman has a full on genocidal hatred of children and Superman, and is psychotic enough to follow any impulse he gets.

# 7 - Mr. Mxyzptlk
This cosmic imp is nearly omnipotent, so it's likely for the DC Universe he has no plans on ruling anything. No, his only goal is to generally cause mischief. The classic version of this character is best. He would torment Superman with cruel illusions and trickery until Superman could trick him into saying or revealing Mxyzptlk backwards.

# 6 - Parasite
A great villain with a cool costume and neat powers, the modern Parasite is Rudy Jones. Though he started as just a lowly janitor, a chemical accident transformed him into Parasite. This being has the ability to absorb the thoughts, powers, and life of anything it touches, making Parasite an absurdly powerful villain for Superman to fight.

# 5 - Darkseid
An immortal with powers rivaling Superman's and a thirst for destruction and power, Darkseid remains of Superman's deadliest villains. His most fearsome ability are his Omega Beams, emitted from his eyes. These beams can disintegrate anything it touches. With Darkseid's tactical cunning, he easily makes #5 on our list.

# 4 - Bizarro
The often misunderstood Bizarro is one of those characters that's hard to dislike. An imperfect clone of Superman, created by Lex Luthor, this character's looks and speech mannerisms have become a staple of American pop culture. In addition, Bizarro possesses the same strength as Superman with opposite versions of his other powers.

# 3 - Brainiac
There have been many interpretations of Brainiac, but my favorite by far is the killer robot with no compassion for any form of life. Instead, he merely desires information and to be the sole possessor of all information. To that end, he has destroyed many worlds. Besides possessing technology that's far beyond most worlds he encounters, Braniac is virtually immortal having rebuilt himself to be stronger and smarter after every encounter.

# 2 - Metallo
The cyborg with a kryptonite heart, John Corben remains one of the most incredible looking and deadly villains Superman has ever faced. Metallo is virtually immortal and can transform any machine into an extension of himself, which he can control. Easily one of the most fearsome foes the Man of Steel has tangled with, Metallo takes our #2 spot.

# 1 - Lex Luthor
Who else could be #1? Lex has a bit of a bad rap. Yes, he has no powers. Yes, he's bald. But besides those, he's a truly brilliant manipulator who even managed to become the President for a short while. Besides being an icon over 60 years in the making, Lex Luthor is proof that intelligence can likely overcome raw power with the correct development.

That concludes our list for the ten greatest Superman foes of all time.
