The Top Three Books I Would like to See Turned into a Movie
Three Novels by Bestselling Authors Dan Brown, Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks Would Make Excellent Films
I love it when a book is transformed into a movie. The first book I want to put on my cinematic wish list is Dan Brown's newest Robert Langdon mystery, 'The Lost Symbol'. Dan Brown's first two movies were controversial stories that became mega-hits on the big screen; the first being 'The DaVinci Code', which takes symbology expert Langdon to France, and then eventually to London to find out the truth behind the story that Jesus Christ had an heir. The second movie, which was actually the first Langdon novel, was a wild and frightening trip throughout the Vatican and Rome called 'Angels and Demons'. It was Langdon's mission to stop a killer from murdering the possible next Pope. And, Brown has graced us with a third book in the series called 'The Lost Symbol', which takes Langdon to Washington DC to solve a mystery by decoding ancient Masonic symbols scattered throughout the city. In the first two movies, acclaimed actor Tom Hanks played the intrepid Langdon. I do hope that Hanks and academy award winning director Ron Howard return to turn Brown's latest tale into a feature film.
'The Dragonriders of Pern' by Anne McCaffrey
My very favorite fantasy series of all time is without a doubt Anne McCaffrey's 'The Dragonriders' stories. The first book in the series is titled 'The Dragonriders of Pern' and it begins the saga of a lost tribe of earth that has settled on a planet far, far away called Pern. Bear in mind... this is not your run of the mill story just about dragons. This is as story of a world trying to survive disaster. Every 200 years, a devastating blight called 'thread' descends upon the planet, destroying everything it touches. The only hope this new civilization has of salvation lies upon the backs of mighty dragons and their masters. The dragon's fiery breath is the only thing that will destroy the dangerous threads before they hit the planet's surface. This is only the skeleton of the story however; the true beauty of the tale lies in McCaffrey's rich characters and well plotted out civilization. She has created a society that any person would relish living in. She has detailed an amazing social structure that is better than any here on Earth, one that some of our own governments could learn something from. Her characters are filled with personality and wisdom; both human and dragon. There are rumors on the internet that someone is planning to make a Dragonriders movie, but no concrete details are available yet. If this book (or series of books) were made into a movie, I would have to go see it every day just to get the chance to finally visit Pern. I think that for a story this well written, a producer may want to find some new, unknown actors to fill the rolls of the lead characters- actors that would make the roles their own. If you haven't read any of this series, go to the library and check out the books and see for yourself... you won't be disappointed!
'Magic Kingdom for Sale-Sold!' by Terry Brooks
The third book I would love to see made into a movie is 'Magic Kingdom for Sale-Sold!' by Terry Brooks. Brooks is most widely known for his series about a world called Shannara; this is not a book of that series however. 'Magic Kingdom for Sale-Sold!' was published in 1986. Four sequels followed, and I have read that a 6th novel is in the works. This story chronicles the tale of an attorney from Chicago named Ben Holiday who, on a whim, answers an ad in an upscale catalog. "Magic Kingdom for Sale, $1,000,000" it read. Holiday thought it had to be a misprint; but lo and behold, he checks it out and finds himself on a journey to a magical kingdom located on the other side of a portal in a tree somewhere in Virginia. The kingdom, called Landover, is without a ruler and they're being terrorized by an evil dragon and various other unsavory entities. The land owners are at each other's throats and magical beings are out of control. Eager for a break from his lonely life, this over worked widower decides to purchase Landover and see if he can turn the civilization around. First, he must gain the trust of the people of the land and the only creatures he has to help him are an inept wizard and a human scribe that has been transformed into a dog. This is a fantastically intricate story of how Ben turns his own life around and finds love again while straightening out a beautiful but troubled land. It would be a fun movie that would have no lulls in the story and plenty of action and special effects. The story could be easily transformed into a movie script, and the lead part of Holiday could be played by a number of actors such as Liam Neeson or Harrison Ford. This is another book that if you haven't read it- check it out from the library and give it a go. You'll enjoy it!

The Dragonriders of Pern would be so amazing! Especially with technology today. Now I am going to be dissappointed if they never become movies.
Good choices... though we must remember that good books are often transformed into mediocre film - while a trashy novel, in the hands of a talented screen writer, can become great cinema!
