The Top Three Games for Super Nintendo

Wes Laurie
When the Super Nintendo video game system was on the market, battling it out with the Sega Genesis system, I owned a Sega. However, I had friends who owned the Super NES and from time to time would play it. Comprising a very long list of Super NES games would be difficult for me, but I can list the three that I remember the most. On the Sega Genesis I enjoyed a variety of game styles, but most of my friends were into fighting games. So, when I was watching other people play the Super Nintendo it tended to be one of the Mortal Combat games getting shown off. Below are the top three games I enjoyed playing myself.

3. SUPER MARIO WORLD - Super Mario video games are almost always worth playing. On the original Nintendo game system I was a big fan of the Mario Brothers. Part three of that series was my favorite, I even recall being excited when the game was unveiled during that 80's movie The Wizard. Super Mario World on the Super NES takes place in Dinosaur Land and introduced the character of Yoshi. I was a big fan of dinosaurs as a kid, but I will say I preferred not using Yoshi more than riding on him through the game. I'm not sure why that is, other than I really enjoyed the previous installments of Mario Brothers and played part 3 so much I was accustomed to it and just wanted more of the exact same or something. Give me Mario Brothers 3 ½?

2. STAR FOX - Star Fox is hailed as being the first three-dimensional Nintendo Game and at the time of its release I, like many others, was indeed impressed with its graphics. In the game you pilot your own fighter spaceship around, shooting enemies. The character you play is Fox McCloud and likewise all of the other characters are different animals. Electronic Gaming Monthly awarded Star Fox with the 1993 Best Shooter award, as the game is considered to be a third person rail shooter.

1. CLAYFIGHTER - Hands down, the best game I found on the Super Nintendo was the fighting game ClayFighter. ClayFighter Tournament Edition was the upgraded version of the original, fixing some issues people were having I suppose. Some of the fighting stages were changed as well. What really made the games for me other than the fun clay-like fighter presentations, was the quirky characters involved. You could play as Bad Mr. Frosty the evil snowman, Blue Suede Goo an Elvis impersonator, Bonker a maniac clown, Helga an opera singer, Taffy a piece of taffy, Tiny the wrestler, Blob the blob, and Ickybod Clay a ghost with a pumpkin head. I would love to have a ClayFighter game on my Ps3!

I love SuperMarioWorld and StarFox but I have never heard of Clayfighter. I actually still play SNES once in awhile, maybe I'll try to find that game! Great article.
