The Top Three Suspects of the "Criminal Minds" BAU: Who Would Be the Perfect Killer?

The "Criminal Minds" BAU team caches its killers in a spectacular and dangerous way. The team must dive into the minds of the criminal at large, whether it be a rapist, kidnapper or murderer, and figure out the patterns of that criminal's life. Following that pattern is what tells the team where the criminal will go next. However, that would all change if the criminal were one of their own.

This is a direction the writers have tried in the past in Season Two, Episode Twelve, "Profiler, Profiled." While Special Agent Derek Morgan was arrested as a serial killer, he was later exonerated when his boyhood mentor indirectly confessed to sexually abusing and later killing the boys Morgan was accused of killing. What this episode taught fans is that a behavioral profiler quite easily fits the profile of a killer, kidnapper or rapist, such as those from the Criminal Minds FBI BAU. What would happen if the BAU were to chase one of their own?

Mass Confusion

With Jennifer JJ Jareau recently departed and Penelope Garcia trying to fill her role of media liaison, in addition to her own technical analyst position, mass confusion would ensue, possibly straining the team to its limits. Garcia, in her role of the team hacker, would be chasing someone who knows how to cover their tracks. The remaining team members would be chasing ghosts. Nevertheless, someone would prevail, realizing that one of their own were a suspect. Once that thought crosses someone's mind, none of the BAU would trust each other again.

Who Would it Be?

Derek Morgan: Since Morgan has already been targeted and exonerated, it would make sense if he were written in as a killer. He could claim that because he was targeted before, it would be stupid to become a killer because it would be the first thing anyone thought. If he were the killer, it would be a perfect cover up and perfect way to throw suspicion to someone else.

Penelope Garcia: Garcia is a technical analyst who was hired by the FBI's BAU in exchange for not being prosecuted. She originally hacked into FBI database systems. Garcia has the skills and the means to cover any and all of her tracks. No one is as good at hacking as she is, so it would be very difficult for any of the team to catch her.

Emily Prentice: Emily Prentice's mother is Elizabeth Prentiss, a United states Ambassador to the Ukraine, among other countries. By proxy, Prentice has diplomatic immunity. This means that any crime Prentice were to commit would not need covering up. She would never be prosecuted, although from what she has learned since joining the BAU, she could easily throw suspicion elsewhere.

With all the training the BAU members have received in addition to their experiences tracking down and catching criminals, a proposed killer team member would have an easy time in disguising their movements, blocking phone call data, erasing computer traces and getting rid of any trace evidence-if the killer left any behind. The BAU will probably never see an episode such as this fictional one depicted here. However, if "Criminal Minds" were to ever see its last season, this would make a great series finale.
