The Top Towns with the Most Fabulous Fall Foliage

Eleven Towns with Brilliant Autumn Leaves

Deanna Lynn Sletten
Autumn foliage is everywhere in the months of September through November and it is beautiful wherever you live. But where are the places that are ranked as having the most fabulous fall foliage? Here is a list of the top places for fall foliage. Because the leaves change depending upon how much, or how little rain a place has had and how cool or warm the temperatures are, the time of year mentioned for the best foliage is just an estimate. Check each place before visiting to see how the foliage is and when they expect it to peak. Whether you choose to drive to one of these locations or not, enjoy your own fall colors while they last.

Take a drive to Camden, Maine. What could be better than brilliant foliage with an ocean view? Located on the Southern coast of Maine overlooking the Penobscot Bay, Camden is considered the number one place to enjoy the autumn leaves. Visit in early to mid October when the leaves are at their best.

Relax in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. With snow-capped mountains as a backdrop to amazing fall foliage, Glenwood Springs is number two on the list of best autumn colors. Located in the Northwest corner of Colorado where the Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers converge, Glenwood Springs is full of history, adventure and brilliant colors. Visit in early October for the best of fall.

Enjoy the beauty of Sevierville, Tennessee. The fall colors explode in this town that gets up close and personal with the Great Smokey Mountains in Eastern Tennessee. Visit in late October for the best of the autumn color show.

Celebrate Octoberfest in Hermann, Missouri. Visit this historic German town on the Missouri River and enjoy both its Old World Charm and its beautiful burst of foliage. Colors are at their best in late October, so why not also enjoy their Octoberfest celebrations every weekend in October.

Explore Whitefish, Montana. Tucked between Big Mountain and Glacier National Park in the Northwest corner of Montana, Whitefish is the perfect spot to enjoy the autumn leaves. There is no better place to enjoy the crisp mountain air that makes foliage snap to life. Visit in early to mid October for the ultimate foliage.

Drive to the most beautiful foliage near you. More great autumn color show destinations include:

  1. Charlottesville, Virginia. Visit in late October.
  2. Alto, Georgia. Visit in late October to early November.
  3. Ephraim, Wisconsin in historic Door County. Visit in early October.
  4. Newfane, Vermont. Visit in late September to early October.
  5. Milford, Pennsylvania. Visit in early October.
  6. Duluth, Minnesota on beautiful Lake Superior. Visit in early October.

Fall is a wonderful time to take a road trip. Be sure to travel from north to south since northern areas turn color earlier than southern areas do. Fall leaves are only with us for one to two months, so wherever you live, enjoy nature's most beautiful annual show.

There is no sign of autumn here in northern California yet as it is still really hot. But hopefully, the leaves will soon start changing. Autumn is such a lovely time of year.
