The Biggest USA Wins in World Cup Soccer

Team USA lost to Ghana in the round of 16 of the 2010 World Cup Tournament. Eliminated from the World Cup, it is time to look back at Team USA's World Cup History and look at the teams top World Cup Wins.

1930

The USA had their greatest soccer success in the 1930 World Cup. The Americans had their first victory a 3-0 win over Belgium. They followed the win over Belgium with a 3-0 win over Paraguay to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals. Team USA lost in the semi-finals, however with the two wins the team was able to claim third place.

1950

Team USA got their first World Cup Victory since 1930 defeating England 1-0. It would be their only win in the 1950 World Cup.

1994

USA followed up a 1-1 tie with Switzerland, with a 2-1 win over Columbia. The win over Columbia was the Americans first World Cup win since 1950. Team USA would lose to Romania 1-0. However a 1-1-1 record in match play was enough for Team USA to advance to the round of 16 where USA would fall to Brazil 1-0.

2002

USA defeated Portugal 3-2 in match play. They would finish match play with a 1-1-1 record. In the round of 16 USA defeated Mexico 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals, but would fall to Germany 1-0.

2010

USA tied England 1-1. Then Team USA had to settle for a tie with Slovenia 2-2, a bad call cost the team a victory. Then Team USA defeated Algeria 1-0 in a must win game to win Group H. Team USA would advance to the round of 16 but would fall to Ghana 2-1.

The Future

If the last 16 years of World Cup history are any indication, the future looks bright for Team USA. The team has advanced to the round of 16 three times. However, Team USA did not advance in 1998 or in 2006. Team USA still needs to develop more consistency before it can be considered a contender.

Amen to that. There is little consistency with this team over the years and this year included. It seemed every game they allowed an early goal...and it came back to bite them. Hey, from one sports junkie to another, great work.
