The Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5900: A Review

The Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5900 is a fine technological specimen that has enough quirk to keep it interesting. Unfortunately, there are a few flaws. Overall, this laptop is definitely worth the money, but a potential consumer should be aware of the cons.

The biggest drawback about this Toshiba is the presence of Vista. The extraordinary level of useless software and annoying "fail safes" can make the laptop's performance relatively slow. The 3GB RAM (expandable up to 4GB) and the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor do help in survival of the Vista experience. Fortunately, it is possible to remove a good deal of the troublesome and useless software. This significantly improves performance and lowers annoyance.

This Toshiba is relatively inexpensive. Currently, the price to purchase one of these laptops from Walmart.com is $478. For all of the outstanding components, this laptop is priced fabulously in comparison to other models on the market.

This is a great laptop for doing any type of work at home. The keyboard is a little noisy, but it makes up for the noise with the comfort. Typing for long periods of time will not be a problem with this keyboard. If, for some reason, working at home requires a webcam or conferencing, there is a webcam with pretty decent picture built into the laptop. Additionally, the webcam software is very easy to use and very accessible. The touch sensitive pad can be a little too sensitive from time to time, but it is not a huge problem, unless an individual makes his or her living by clicking alone. Also, the mouse buttons can be a bit loud and stiff at first use, but this does get better with time. Hopefully, it is not an indicator of wearing out.

Other features of the laptop include wireless capabilities, built in speakers, two memory slots, a DVD SuperMulti Drive, and a 250 GB hard drive. The very attractive silver finish and the 15.4 inch screen make this laptop easy on the eyes in two senses.

Overall, this is a fantastic laptop with a few flaws. Vista, the biggest flaw, is present on pretty much every Microsoft-friendly laptop on the market now. Without buying a Mac or another alternative, Vista will be the operating system of choice until Microsoft develops another. Despite that major flaw, laptops like this Toshiba will survive because for the price and the features, this laptop is still a winner.
