The Towers

Diane Zoller-Ciatto

As the image of the towers
Is seared into my brain
Watching them being built
Never expecting so much pain!

I saw them rise across
The skyline as they grew
A budding tall metropolis
With a panoramic view!

Ten years have elapsed
And they say that life goes on
But we can not forget
The people who have gone!

The mothers and the fathers
Who never made it home
All met that day in heaven
In God's geodesic dome!

But grief has its way
Of strengthening our will
With a new tower and memorial
We're on our way uphill!
