The Trojan Horse Has Arrived

I Knew Better... But I Let it In

David A. Reinstein, LCSW
The email from FedEx
Looked suspicious
But I impulsively
Opened it anyway.
All Hell broke loose.
Hard Drive crashes,
Desk top is gone,
Norton Security says
"Call the manufacturer."
Back to my own resources
I get this far.
I can post
But cannot open Word
So straight into
My old friend,
The Text Editor,
The explanation
Of my absence goes.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I'm 3,000 miles from home
And my personal techie,
Si this is adieu until I get back
In a couple of weeks.
I should count my blessings
I suppose
That I figured out how to get
This out.
But I really thought
THat I was smarter
Than this.
Hubris
Strikes us all
When we are least
Expecting it.

Or,
Is/was it
Just me?

Like Dan, I use Avast! Internet Security... for my money, the best AV/malware suite out there. I hope you get back "up to speed" soon.

I've been using Avast Internet Security for the past year and finally seem to have found good protection..! I hope all gets better soon!

This is especially frustrating for writers. I am still without a laptop. The cooling system broke and it was too old to pay to replace it. I'm waiting until I have more money to get a new one. In the meantime, I share a computer with my husband. It is not the same. Whenever the mood to write kicks in, he's comparison shopping or looking up how to fix something. :)

I really enjoyed this, I had a probelm with something, I don't know if it was Fred!

You're dealing with FRED. All computers are called FRED. They are Freaking - Rediculous - Electrical - Devices. You probably did not do anything wrong. FRED decided you needed some frustration in your life and being that far from home was a perfect time.

Recently I opened an article with writing sites. some contained viruses galore. Fortunately, my Norton and Mcafee caught them all before they infected my computer.

My Norton Internet Suite caught and disposed of two trojans earlier this year, within 10 minutes of each other, which came from the same website. I don't go there anymore. Several years ago, an older computer was infected with a virus...I had to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything. All my important files are on an external hard drive, and I intend to get a second external to back up the first. I usually ignore emails from sources I don't know, but not always...my day may be out there in the future. Good luck David...it'll get fixed. And I'm glad your 3,000 mile distance is parallel to Earth's surface, not perpendicular;)
