The Troll in the Hole

A Father's Day Poem for Father's to Read to Their Children

Nick Brown

One day in a village far far away
Lived a little boy name Richard Lee Hay

He wondered from day to day
Searching for something new to say

And time and time again
He came home with a grin

Telling a story with a beginning and with an end.

One day Richard Lee Hay had something true to say.

While wondering around the edge of town he came upon a hole where in lies a Troll.

At the dinner table, he told the fable.

To which his father wasn't able.

To understand the tale.

The tale was about a Troll named Meer who growled and hissed and yelled with fear.

Richard Lee Hay continued the tale which his father ended with the slamming of a pail.

"No more of this story - for you tell a tale that was a fish story that turned into a whale."

His father then took out a whip - cracked the boys hip

Causing blood to pour from the wound

As this action happened a lot - the wound would soon clot as the others have done before.

The swift reprimands were often that could one day put him in a coffin

and the boy was fully aware.

The very next day, the boy left town

To rediscover what he had found - there in the hole, was a sleeping troll and boy gave him a shout.

"Hey Meer! Wake up! Wake up and lend me your ear! For I can get you out!

After a long discussion and acceptance of the repercussion - the troll climbed out with a smile.

The troll thanked the boy for a while and began to run the mile to take care of his end of the bargain.

The father was working - he was busy forking - the large bales of hay.

The troll arrived out of sight with his teeth ready to bite when he saw the father of the young boy,

As it started to rain - the troll bit into his brain - causing the blood to gush and poor.

After he tore out his eyes the evil troll sighs while drinking like a lush and a whore.

Meer ate his face with style and grace while the boy turned around the corner.

The boy jumped on the troll and pushed him in the corner and ate the trolls left eye.

He stuck in his thumb and plucked it out like a plum and said

Now you're going to die.

The boy killed the troll and buried him in the hole where he found him.

Now that his father and the troll were dead he could now rest his weary head.

To all the dads with with sons like Richard Lee Hay - treat him right or you will pay.

One day - you'll pay - perhaps on father's day.
