Their daily trials like scenes from a play
They go on and on for their captive audience
But pay no heed to what went on with your day
Simply, they are the self-absorbed
Yes, their importance in this world cannot be measured
For without their lives, ours would have little meaning
Their very presence should be appreciated and treasured
Do you hear the sarcasm in my words?
The self-important do make me smile
They think they do the world a special favor
Their very existence makes our days worthwhile
We all need the self-absorbed
They are vital to the human condition
They teach us to reach beyond our own needs and comforts
And witness the ugliness of too much ambition
Before you turn your back on the self-absorbed
Try and take a peek at who lurks behind that pride
A fragile ego trying so hard to be accepted
Might be the true person that is hiding inside

So very true and so well said, Donna. I have a dear friendship that is currently strained over my friend's 'self-importance' and I guess I need to take a look at my reactions to her actions and get our friendship back on track. Thank you.
Yes, insecurity is the real issue.

Very insightful. Great job as always.
But enough about me! Let's talk about you. What do you think of me?
