The Trouble with Sonnets

A National Poetry Month Sonnet

Khara E. House
A sonnet is the hardest poem to write
Especially when pressed for so much time
The words, like warriors, put up a fight,
Refusing to submit to easy rhyme.
You'll sit at the computer, and reposed,
Expect the words to rush upon the page.
Alas, the words seem not kindly disposed
Like actors who are fearful of the stage.
And so you sit and wrestle, bit by bit,
To summon up the phrases to impart
A subtle hint of wisdom or of wit
And demonstrate your mast'ry of the art.
Perhaps you'll find, before your effort's through,
A sonnet, though not easy, you can do.

I can see why this made the top three. I think I'd better leave the sonnets to you.

Congratulations on taking third place in the sonnet contest. Just so you know, I think you should've won.

Great! I love it! I wrote one too (my one and only) but I didn't realize they needed to have ten syllables. Ah well, next time maybe. I look forward to reading more of your work. Well Done :)
