Nestled in the woods of Northern Wisconsin Trout Haven sits right on the famous Knapp Creek. Knapp Creak is known for its excellence in Trout fly fishing with easy to navigate waters by foot and pristine landscapes that will make any freelance painter or photographer smile in delight for their next project.
On the weekend of my stay I was greeted by owner/operator Dan Graf to a gorgeous log cabin featuring 4 beds, 4 baths, an immaculate great room with a gas fireplace, beautiful kitchen fully equipped with modern day stainless steel appliances, and a deck spanning the length of the cabin off the kitchen. The cabin was decorated of that straight out of a magazine and right then did I know I was going to enjoy my stay.
The next morning after a great night sleep, I awoke refreshed to the sun beaming through the sliding door on one of two up stairs bedrooms with a private deck listening to the birds chirping feeling the tranquility this place has to offer outside of every day big city living. I decided to try my luck at fly fishing as it is a sport I have yet to take up and wanted for myself to see if I could twirl and swirl the fly rod around without getting the lure stuck in my ear. After a handful of casts I was able to land my first trout of my life and the excitement while holding that little fish in my hand feeling a sense of accomplishment.
After my fly fishing experience I was ready to see what the area had to offer. My next plan was to hit the local golf courses. To my surprise I stumbled upon the Siren National Golf Course located in Siren, Wisconsin about 10 miles north of Lewis, WI. This is one of the most beautiful yet challenging 18 hole courses I have played all summer. Again, a photographers dream boasting calender photo quality green fairways and soft putting greens that will have you earn every stroke and put along with many head scratching moments of "How did I just miss that put!" mumblings while you walk to the next tee box.
If you are eager for a secluded getaway vacation or even in the market for a log cabin nestled among the pristine northern Wisconsin woods on Knapp Creek give Trout Haven a try. I have included a link to the website that will navigate you around area attractions, fly fishing techniques and guiding services by angler guide Dan Brown, along with a small biography of Dan Graf and family. My only regret of the whole vacation experience is that weekends are only two days long!!! Enjoy!!
