Busses Converted to Trolley Wannabe's Are Making Their Rounds in Independence and Kansas City

It's still not too late to enjoy a trolley ride while visiting the Independence and Kansas City metropolitan area.

An article entitled, The Buck Starts Here can be seen in the AAA Midwest Traveler, September/October 2010 edition. It is appropriately named the Truman Trolley, after one of Independence's most famous sons, President Harry S. Truman.

This undertaking is a joint effort between the Independence Square, Harry S. Truman Library and Museum and Independence Tourism. These trolleys are actually busses painted to look like streetcars. It provides a look back in history when streetcars were a major mode of transportation.

These trolleys operate daily except Sunday. This service will be available until October 2. While it serves the people in the Independence community, it also goes to downtown Kansas City.

The use of these trolleys provide a solution of sorts to residents and visitors alike attending conferences and conventions in Kansas City. If boarding the trolley from Kansas City, services are available Monday through Saturday at 10:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.

Boarding takes place at the Union Station. The ride is non-stop to Independence. If those hours don't conform to your schedule you may call 816-512-5555 in advance to make suitable arrangements for your time frame.

An advantage of utilizing these trolleys is the opportunity you have in taking a day trip without the hassle of driving yourself. There is a non-stop trip back to the Union Station in Kansas City leaving the Independence Square at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

If you live in the city of Independence these trolleys operate on a regular basis between 10:30 to 5:30 Monday through Saturday. The starting point is at the Clinton Soda Fountain at the corner of Main and Maple.

All day tickets for riders 6 and up is $1.00 for a full circuit. Just as a traditional trolley, riders can get on and off at several locations without paying any more fee fares. Wait time averages to be about 15 minutes. No reservations are necessary if you live in Independence. The trolley stops at several of the Independence museums and attractions.
