Chocolate is a tasty food for people of all ages. There are some myths about Chocolate which are discussed in this article.

Delightful chocolate has been in controversy time and again. Chocolate is prepared from the Cocoa which is abundantly grown in many parts of the world. Earlier, it was believed that chocolate was used as a remedy in America for various ailments. Later, it was said that chocolate is the reason for ailments like acne, cavity of the teeth, increase in cholesterol etc.

In a change of opinion, researchers are now underling the health benefits of chocolate. Researchers have found that compared to milk chocolate and white chocolates, dark chocolate has many health benefits. But, consumption has to be moderate.

What are the diseases feared from use of Chocolate and is it true?

'Acne' is a skin disease which may occur on the face, shoulders, chest, back etc. Although teenagers are prone to be affected by 'acne' it can affect people in the age group 20 - 40 years. Acne is not a life threatening disease but it can certainly leave a scar on the face. It was believed that Chocolates could trigger 'acne'. But many researches conducted have found that, 'acne' is not caused by chocolate.

Another issue related to chocolate is that it was feared it would cause tooth decay. But the researchers have disputed this belief. They say that chocolate or Cocoa, from which the Chocolate is made, in fact, contains phosphates which are in fact beneficial to the tooth. Further, cocoa contains many minerals and antioxidants. Researchers say these minerals tones down the effect of sugar on the tooth. Therefore, they say that dental cavity is not the result of chocolate. In fact some research groups have also found that Cocoa has many anti bacterial properties which fights tooth decay rather than triggering the decay.

On the top of it, dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants are very much helpful to the body. They supply numerous free radicals which are essentially required by the body. In addition to that Cacao is also rich in phytochemicals and flayanoids which are very helpful in reducing the lipid levels. Apart from other benefits, the phytochemicals and flayanoids are very much helpful in preventing cardiovascular diseases.

But, only one precaution which has to be taken in regard to use of chocolate is that it is rich in fat. So, regular exercises would be required to contain the side effects of consuming more fat substances. With this precaution, according to the results of the researches, Chocolate and particularly Dark Chocolate is beneficial to the body.
